NLL Insider - Game 3 review

by dazman32, updated on Sunday, May 22 2016, 12:53 am EST

Game three was the kind of game we expect from these two great teams, a nail biter from start to finish.

The Knicks held a 5 point lead heading into the fourth, and a four point lead with two minutes left, but the Sixers were able to stifle the Knicks in the final few possessions and make shots when it mattered to take the lead and close it out with a 5 point win.

Again the rebounding was won by the eventual victor, it really does appear to be the major factor in this series. LaMarcus Aldridge was huge in that regard, with 17 rebounds. He also scored a bunch with 29 points. Lillard and McCollum also combined for 46 points

But outdoing them all was James Harden, who amazingly improved on his 42 point game two output, with a 49 point game three. He missed some crucial shots down the stretch however, and didn't have enough help from his teammates, particularly the bigs .

Both teams really took care of the ball, limiting turnovers, and passing the ball well. It was  good display of basketball, and a great game, something we hope to see more of as this series moves on.

Let’s see what the GM’s had to say post game:

First up VT

Q: An important win to gain back home court advantage, how tense was that final quarter?

VT: Man, I thought we were finished. Pau was really bad, missing all kinds of easy shots. He redeemed himself with a long jumper that helped turn the tide. What an exciting finish to that game.

Q: LaMarcus was huge tonight, could he be the key to winning this series?

VT: Yeah, he could be. LaMarcus is really a team player. It was nice to see him step up and take control. He's trying to show the Knicks that it doesn't matter who they put on him.

Q: James Harden scored 49 points, is that a concern or not an issue as long as your winning?

VT: Harden is amazing. He should be the MVP. But we won the game.

Now Dunadan

Q: That must be a disappointing loss after leading heading into the fourth?

Dunadan: Certainly. We played a good 46 minutes and were up four with under two to go. We should be able to bring home such a lead . But we rushed some shots and missed some layups and suddenly we lost by five. Great finish by the Sixers.  Kudos.

Q: James Harden was amazing, who needs to step up and give him some help?

Dunadan: Dwight needs to step up. We can't have him missing gimmies under the basket. Paul needs to be more aggressive defending Aldridge too.

Q: An adjustment lead to the turnaround in game two, can we expect another for game four?

Dunadan: We'll see. We wont have much time too prepare today. So probably not.

Thanks to both GM’s for participating in the post game media conference.

Game four now looms large for the Knicks, a 3-1 deficit is a hard road to come back from.

So far the wins have alternated in this series, so it will be interesting to see if Dunadan does make a quick adjustment to try and gain favour in game four. The Knicks really do need to get a win in front of their home crowd to try and keep their confidence in being able to eventually win this series.

The Sixers and VT however would love a 2 game buffer, and then try and close the series out back in Philly.

Let's hope it's as close as the last one.

Tune in for game four, Sunday at 3:30pm NLL time.
