NLL Insider - NY-PHI Media Conference

by dazman32, updated on Thursday, May 19 2016, 04:17 pm EST

Game two is done, and the series is now locked 1-1 after a huge turnaround by the Knicks.

The game was all tied up heading into the fourth, but the Knicks were white hot in the final period, scoring 40 and winning the game 116-105.

The Knicks were able to flip the rebounding advantage in game two, winning the count by 11. Primarily aided by Paul Millsap's insertion into the starting lineup, as well as John Henson's good work from the bench.

James Harden also awoke offensively, getting to the free throw line 5 times and shooting 16-26 from the field culminating in 42 points.

The Sixers again played well, but couldn't sustain the defensive effort for four quarters that propelled them in game one. CJ McCollum had a shooting night to forget, going 5-23 from the field for 13 points.

Let’s see what the GM’s had to say post game:

First up Dunadan

Q: A win on the Sixers home floor, how important would you say that one was?

Dunadan: After the clubbing we received in the first game, this was very important for morale. We felt confident going into the series. Now we feel confident again.

Q: You won the rebounding battle tonight, what changed?

Dunadan: Our bigs knew they had to step it up. Dwight still has not quite arrived in this series offensively, but he was good on defense and on the boards this time. But it was his backup John Henson, who was especially impressive.

Q: James Harden was able to get it going tonight, did he/you make any adjustments to his approach on offense?

Dunadan: We put the ball in his hands even more, telling him to do what he did all season long. Leonard is a great defensive player. But you're simply not going to shut down James two games in a row.

Now VT

Q: A huge turnaround from the game one win, what went wrong?

VT: Our shots just weren't falling. We missed some key boards. We let things slip away at the end. The Knicks started a small forward at shooting guard.

Q: Home court advantage is now with the Knicks, how important will that be going forward?

VT: Eh, we will play well no matter where we are.

Q: CJ McCollum couldn't find his shot tonight, how do you keep his confidence up heading into the next game?

VT: Sometimes guys have off nights. CJ isn't used to playing against small forwards at the two. He will have to adjust to guys playing out of position if we want to beat the Knicks. This is the team that started Turkoglu at center for awhile.

Thanks to both GM’s for participating in the post game media conference.

So now game three is upon us, and you get the feeling it will be especially crucial for both teams to try and gain the advantage early in the series.

A chess match is a good way to describe it, and with the Knicks making the move last game, will the Sixers have a counter or try and rely on their guys to get it back together.

VT did mention the mismatch at shooting guard a few times, perhaps that will be an area of focus.

But I think, as is often the case in the NLL, the rebounding count is just so crucial to the outcome of any game, and again has to be the major focus for both teams heading into this pivotal game three.

I can't wait.

Tune in for game three, Friday at 2pm NLL time.
