1) Rasual Butler
Why you should sign him: For some reason, Ras is often
overlooked in both our league and the NBA. However, if you’re looking for a
three-point specialist, Butler is your man. The small forward position was the
weakest in free agency, so calling Butler the best available isn’t saying much.
However, the guy can be a scoring threat off your bench if he is having a good
night.
Why you shouldn’t: He seems to get waived a lot in the
NBA, meaning he will just be taking up room on your bench.
Can You Get Him?: Sure, there are only two people
bidding on him right now, so you definitely have a chance.
2) Alonzo Gee
Why you should sign him: Didn’t this guy help the Wizards win
that improbable title that year? He might be the same good luck charm for you,
too. Also, he does get minutes in the NBA so he has that going for him.
Why you shouldn’t: Who wants a three that can’t shoot?
Oof, take a look at Gee’s ratings. But maybe ratings don’t mean anything. He
hit nearly 60% of his shots last season for the Warriors.
Can You Get Him?: Gee has two bids on him. So possibly.
3) Metta World Peace
Why you should sign him: This guy used to be a star. Maybe he
has a little bit in the tank. Plus, he is minimum, so it might be worth a
flyer. Back when Metta World Peace was Ron Artest, he was awesome.
Why you shouldn’t: He barely made the Lakers roster.
There is a good chance he will sit on your IR.
Can You Get Him?: I am gobsmacked that Craig and the
Heat didn’t snap this guy up on Saturday. He has a history of trading for this
guy whenever he takes over a new team. He has three bids now. One might be
Miami. If so, you’re screwed.
4) Kostas Papanikolaou
Why you should sign him: The Greek Freak, or whatever he is
called, seemed so good a year that he was making nearly $5 million. Now he is
minimum, a big reduction. If you consider that discount, then this guy is for
you.
Why you shouldn’t: He can’t really shoot, he can’t
really defend, he’s slow.
Can You Get Him?: Kostas has a whopping five bids on
him. That’s some stiff competition so you may want to show some GM point love
if you have a bad record. Also, signed a two-year deal in the NBA, so I will
fix his contract status once he’s signed.
5) Josh Huestis
Why you should sign him: Because there are no SFs left and you’re
desperate. He was also an NBA first-rounder still on a rookie contract (he slid
til pick 43 for the NLL), so there is some
potential.
Why you shouldn’t: Josh who? He may never play a game in
the NBA. Denver dumped him in a bid to get Mo Williams. He still probably doesn’t
regret it.
Can You Get Him?: Yeah, probably. At this point,
Huestis has one bid. If you have the depth to stash, you could do worse than
take a risk here.
