1) Enes Kanter
Why you should sign him: Easily the best big man out there,
Kanter can kill it on both the offensive and defensive sides of the court. He
almost averaged a double-double last season once he was traded from Milwaukee
to the Raptors.
Why you shouldn’t: $16 million is an awful lot for a guy
who plays off the bench in the NBA. And besides, there’s a good chance you can’t
afford him now anyway.
Can You Get Him?: Nah, he’s a restricted free agent
and the Raptors will match pretty much any bid. Don’t bother.
2) Aron Baynes
Why you should sign him: If you are looking for a big man who
can rebound and defend, Baynes could be your man. He also gets around 10 mpg
each night in the NBA, so he will be active.
Why you shouldn’t: $6.5 million is a little much for his
services, but big men do tend to get overpaid in the league. He really hasn’t
do much, stat-wise, in the league but then again never really got the chance to
prove himself in Memphis.
Can You Get Him?: Yes, you can, if you have the cap room.
He is restricted, but here’s a little secret: Houndy can’t keep him. Baynes
only has two Bird years and Houndy is already over the salary cap. So go for it!
3) Bismack Biyombo
Why you should sign him: He might be a little undersized for a
center (hey! You can use him at PF), but Biyombo is tough and will get you
rebounds. He is also a relative bargain at less than $3 million this year.
Why you shouldn’t: What you see is what you get. He is
going to put in work and get some rebounds but the guy is never going to be an
All-Star.
Can You Get Him?: Maybe. The Spurs have an open slot on
the roster for a reason. However, they only have 18 GM points in their wallet.
If you really want Biyombo, drop 30 or 35 points on him. It’s unlikely Leeroy
wants to scramble to match that.
4) Jeff Withey
Why you should sign him: You’re desperate for a big who might see the light of day. Or you need
that minimum of 13 players and Withey is still out there.
Why you shouldn’t: He’s played 1 minute for the Jazz in
the NBA this season. And he kind of sucks.
Can You Get Him?: Yeah, bid away if Withey is your type
of guy.
5) Cristiano Felicio
Why you should sign him: Potential. He may be a D-League type,
but the NBA Bulls saw something in the big man for him to make the roster. And
if you’re someone like Sheed and you like Brazilians, well, Felicio is from
Brazil. He also showed some flashes during pre-season.
Why you shouldn’t: This dude is so buried on the Bulls
depth chart. He is so buried we can call him “corpse.†If want to take a flyer
on a guy who may pan out, go for it. If you are desperate for able bodies, look
elsewhere.
Can You Get Him?: Yeah, competition does not look too
fierce.
