NLL Insider - FA Wave One Reviewby dunadan, updated on Monday, November 09 2015, 07:50 am EST Here's your recap of the first crop of NLL free-agents processed in a wave. I've decided to refrain from actually grading teams, since there is a lot of luck involved and some teams were just unable to compete for various reasons. Three teams sat out, six struck out. 586 GM points were spent and 55 players signed. No restricted FAs signed offer sheets with other teams. 40 players remain, including the eight restricted ones. Hawks
The Hawks single signing of the night was undrafted rookie Christion Wood, who comes with a several red flags. He's on a Hinkie special, so good value for whatever he ultimately delivers. Even if it is nothing. Missing out on Caron Butler and Wes Johnson will force Justise Winslow to start from day one. But without any points invested due to empty pockets, getting them was a longshot anyway. Celtics
This time the Celtics bluffed with their "all-in" threats. With six out of seven, they still got everyone they conveted, except for Marcus Thornton, who prefers warm weather. C's fans are especially happy about the ten points spent to secure Linsanity. While the backcourt is now really crowded, they're still a little bit thin up front behind the starters. You can expect half of these signings to be combined for an upgrade elsewhere before mid-season. Nets
Bargnani, Thornton and Mbah a Moute wanted no part of the rebuilding Nets. But Dante Cunningham went where the money was. His contract is solid, but he is unlikely to crack a healthy rotation. Brooklyn still has some money left under their exceptions to fill out the two remaining slots. Hornets
With no points to spare, the Hornets only won a single bid in round one, but will be happy they got KK for free. They aimed a bit too high, with all their other five targets except one, even garnering points from other teams. Bulls
Almost perfect aim by the Bulls in waive one. Seth Curry was a lock and they dropped all their points on Aminu, blowing the opposition out of the water. D-Will didn't have any other suitors and they beat out the Wizards for the services of Neal and Barbosa. Only Koufos slipped through their grasp, but he wanted that starting job in Charlotte. But now there is already talk about buying out Gary Neal? Cavs
GM Lebron is not accustomed to losing out in free-agency. So Luis Scola brushing him off, despite heavy recruitment, must sting. Also Wes Johnson wanted no free ride to a ring. Everyone else meekly joined the Cavs. Although Perkins got hurt signing his new deal and will miss three months. Overall a good veteran haul with Miller and Amare, but nothing compared to the master-strokes of the past. Robinson will be the only long-term piece from the free-agent class, but the Cleveland bench changes on a yearly basis anyway. But why didn'T they just resign R-Jeff? MavsDallas sat out free agency. They already are 15 players deep and are sitting right below the luxury line. Pacers
No three-point shooters for the Pacers this time. Bass has range, but not as much as Indy usually prefers, but his size will be much needed as all other forwards are either tweeners or unproven. NuggetsWith 20 points available and 15 players, Denver went all in in Mo Williams. They struck out and will depend will on Isaisah Canaan being able to lead the second unit. PistonsYou have to feel sorry for Detroit. With only nine players under contract they were able to place seven bids. Sitting just over the cap, they were however limited to their exceptions and so had the same targets as many contenders. Naturally they struck out on all of them, blowing 28 points in the process. Maybe they can now sweep round two? WarriorsNewcomer MaiLo needed to fill only one spot. He went all in on one of the worst guys rating-wise, who suprisingly is currently tearing it up in the NBA Linsanity-style. The Sixers welcomed him to the NLL by cold-heartedly snatching even this tiny pleasure away from him. RocketsThe aspect of playing with the trigger-happy trio of Kobe, Melo and Jennings isn't something anyone would cherish. Certainly not Ish Smith and John Jenkins, who quickly signed elsewhere. Clippers
The Clippers simply went out and signed their own RFA Whiteside with little effort and no competition. They also got shooters Carroll and Belinelli with their remaining cap-space. In addition to their rookies and free-agents they are now still sitting on 90+ GM points. Lakers
The reigning champs kept their core intact by dropping all of their 70 points on Chandler (against no resistance, but better save than sorry), whith a little help from the salary reductions of Green and Manu and Hill. That also allowed them to pick up Felton. They missed out on Kaman and Ellington, but got another shooter in Copeland. Grizzlies
Memphis lost a few points bidding on Kaman (Utah) and Ish Smith (Cle), but didn't even use all his available bids. With almost no size on the bench that is not good. Pickings will be even slimmer in round two. Heat
The Heat went from having two players under contract at some point during the offseason, to having 13 very good to decent players. In free agency they dropped the mother-load on their own guy Rondo and got everyone else by virtue of having had a good record and a depleted roster. They only lost out on Lin (10 points) and Wes Johnson. BucksFree-agency? The Bucks couldn't care less. Draft, draft, draft is the strategy in Wisconsin/Slovenia. Wolves
The Wolves won half or their four 0-point bids. Bargs is now slated in as their starting center, which wont sit well with Lowry and George. But with few points they played it save. Their other two targets Robinson (Cle) and Dedmon (Phi) likely laughed off javi's overtures. Pelicans
Two out of five sounds good for a lottery team, even more so if you bring home 'the price' of this event in Parsons. Nevermind it cost 99 points when it could have been free. Larkin is just the icing on the cake here. Knicks
With limited resources both in exceptions and GM points, the Knicks went for three minimum guys. With two uncontested signings they spent most of their remaining points on wooing Johnson. Wes should adequately replace Deng in the starting five and the other two are minimal upgrades over the departed Peric and Calathes. Magic
The Magic two signed NBA Knickerbockers no one else wanted. They missed out on Marco, but they should be good with their guard rotation once Rubio returns. As for Ricky, who is still sitting out there, laddas kind of has his remaining points locked up, since he doesn't want to be caught with their pants down all the way to his ankles and be forced to sell off assets just to match an offer sheet. Sixers
The Sixers swept their free-agent wave, just as they swept so many playoff series in the past. Getting Scola back was key and adding Mo was just as important. Undrafted rookie McConnell may be a great find and could be well worth the 20 points. Just not any time soon, considering his 57 overall rating in the game. But who cares, he's not going to see any playing time unless injuries hit hard. Suns
Penny spent his points wisely, 30 landing him Ed Davis. That no one put up a fight is surprising. Even Alexander was more thought-after despite going undrafted and being hurt. Bids on Johnson and Robinson were just prayers that went unanswered. Blazers
Portland didn't have the resources to compete with New Orleans for the services of Parsons. But the presence of an unknown second bidder kept the price up. They did get their #2 guy with no resistance in RoLo and picked up shooter Chris Johnson. Everything else being the same, Bass and Hansbrough prefered playoff situations in the East. Spurs
The Spurs almost had Larkin wrapped up, but the Pelicans got lucky and snatched him away. They did get their own former first-round pick Jenkins on a team-friedly 1+1 deal with their only other bid. Jazz
After trading Mozgov for rookie Cauley-Stein, the Jazz dropped everything they had on NBA-DNP Kaman. As long as those DNPs don't turn into IL, they should be fine. If they do, it's Willie-time. Utah was one of the other suitors for Williams, but the Sixers' music sounded sweeter to Mo than Jazz. Wizards
