NLL Insider - Top 25 Remaining FAs: PFs

1) Jason Smith

Why you should sign him: He is one the best bigs out there still. More of an offensive threat than a defensive one, Smith is still a big body and works at higher than the minimum scale. Not a starter by any means, he is still relatively cheap and can fill in if you are in a pinch. He will get you more minutes than Andreas Bargnani for example.

Why you shouldn’t: Smith is pretty soft for a big. He also seems to get hurt a lot. He hasn’t played more than 50 games a season since 2010-11.

Can You Get Him?: Yeah, but there might be competition. At press time, he has three bids on him, so you may need to use points. Too bad you didn’t snap him up on Saturday for nothing, eh?

2) Jonas Jerebko

Why you should sign him: Looking for some three-point fire power in a tough body, Jonas could be your guy. He can shoot and he can actually rebound better than the player sitting just above him on the list here. He will also definitely get minutes in the NBA, so he will be available. And he hit 56% of his three-pointers for Detroit last season!

Why you shouldn’t: He is pretty expensive at $5 million for what he offers. He is also one of those tweener players that are too slow for small forward but a little too undersized for power forward.

Can You Get Him?: Yes! No one is currently bidding on him. You could do much worse, especially if you have cap room to burn.

3) Quincy Acy

Why you should sign him: Acy is a tough, defensive-minded forward. He had a pretty decent role with the NBA Knicks last season, but he seems a little buried on the Kings right now. But he can rebound and he’s cheap, so why not take the risk if you are short on bodies?

Why you shouldn’t: Who wants a power forward that’s 6’7”? I guess you could play him at point guard….oh wait….we can’t do that anymore.

Can You Get Him?: Yep, but someone is bidding on him already. But if you have the better record and the need for a big, you should be able to grab him.

4) Mirza Teletovic

Why you should sign him: He is pretty good and can play both the forward spots. Bother a serious ailment took him down last season, Teletovic looked like he might just play at the next level. He can shoot (even hit the three) and defend. He got in 29 good games for the Wizards last season before having to sit out.

Why you shouldn’t: $5.5 million isn’t chicken scratch and he hasn’t been playing like his old self this year in the NBA.

Can You Get Him?: I dare you. Mirza is restricted and Darko holds his rights. He is a GM that grasps onto ANY resource, even if it’s a dead iguana. He also spooks easy, so if you drop 35 GM points on Teletovic, Darko just MIGHT say, “Uncle,” even though he does have the roster space and the points to match.

5) Eric Moreland

Why you should sign him: Scraping the bottom of the barrel here a little bit, but Moreland is actually seeing some minutes in the NBA. And by some I mean less than 4 minutes per game. But he’s cheap and might be worth a flyer, especially if you are worried about being cost effective.

Why you shouldn’t: Eric who? He might be one of those guys you sign for filler and then waive if something better comes along.

Can You Get Him?: Uh yeah, no one is knocking down Eric’s door to pick him up. If you need a big and the other four above aren’t your cup of tea, try Moreland.
