NLL Insider - All-Star Spotlight: Jordan

by spudspace, updated on Friday, February 27 2015, 08:15 pm EST

Making his first NLL All-Star appearance, DeAndre has proven to be a beast in the middle for likely playoff bound Dallas.  He is in the top 5 of the only important categories that matter for a center; Blocks, Rebounds, and Field Goal Percentage.  He has had 26 double doubles thus far this season, which is tops in the league.  He also leads the league with 95 dunks, which are always thundering and bring the house down.  DeAndre has been heard giving all praise to the great Tim Duncan saying “I’ve learned so much playing with Tim about how to be a professional.  I hope that when I am done, I can get him another championship before he retires!”

One of the things that sets DeAndre back is his free-throw shooting, but he has been working on this, and besides, who shoots free-throws in an all-star game?  Many fans around the country will get to see his thunderous alley-oops that are so typical in a Mavericks game in Big D.  Many comparisons have been made recently to Wilt the Stilt, but DeAndre isn’t concerned with that saying “I’m just blessed to be in this league, and make the all-star team.  Nobody can compare to Wilt, but even to be thought of like that is an amazing compliment!”

Asked how he enjoys playing for Dallas after growing up in Houston and attending Texas A&M right up the road from Houston, DeAndre was very elusive saying “I’m just happy I’m in Texas.  You know how they say everything’s bigger in Texas?  Well, I’m the biggest, badest center in the league, so I feel I’m doing my city and state right.”  When asked how he found out about being an All-Star, he said “I was in the Whataburger drive through with my boy Rob [Hummel], we like to go there after practice and get our burger on you know?  Anyway, I was driving so I got a text and Rob read it for me and said, “Yo man, you’re going to NY!”  I was so happy; I forgot to pay for the burgers and drove off.  Anyway, whoever is in charge of the Whataburger in Dallas on Haskell Avenue, I owe you like 30 bucks.”

DeAndre is a true throwback center, and in this new league of stretch 4 and 5’s, he is a delight to watch.  Everyone is excited to see what he can do when nobody is trying to foul him, and hopefully he pays for that burger.
