NLL Insider - All-Star Spotlight: Durant by Mavs4Life, updated on Wednesday, February 25 2015, 03:00 am EST KEVIN DURANT At the
moment, and likely until the end of the season, The Boston Celtics are the best
team in all of the NLL. Running on a dominant thirty-game win streak that
seemingly will never end, no one is questioning the Celtics’ three all-star
game selections, and even with missing seventeen games, team superstar Kevin Durant nearly led all of the
league in voting and was completely deserving of every single vote despite
missing all that time. When healthy, Durant has been dominant in nearly every
single area of the game, and if he can play most of his team’s remaining games,
looks to be an easy pick for the league’s MVP award.
Over the
off-season, Durant was moved to the Celtics in a shocking blockbuster deal for
Nicolas Batum, Marc Gasol, and a first round pick. GM Jmac traded significant
elements of his team, but no one around the league truly questioned the deal,
and Durant made sure that everybody thought correctly. Gasol has already been
traded once again to the Heat, and Batum seems to have regressed from a
breakout year in Boston in 2014. Meanwhile, Durant is now playing some of the best
basketball of his career, including career highs in assists (4.3, stomping his
previous high of 2.3) and steals (1.7), as well as leading the league in
fast-break points per game (3.9).
A nagging
foot puts Durant as questionable for the game, but league sources report that
the superstar plans to rough it out and play. Who would want to miss such a
historic game in the world’s most famous arena? Certainly not a player of
Durant’s caliber, as winning MVP would be a gigantic honor and accolade. Durant
has everything he needs to win the MVP: athleticism, scoring, and now a proven
passer. Watch out for the Durantula to be all over the place at MSG. The league
sends their congratulations to Kevin Durant.
