The votes are in and final, and here we announce the Players of the Week
and Rookies of the Week for Week 13, as well as the Players and Rookies of the
Month for December!
East
POTW – Kevin Durant
The POTW report asked for surprises…but out East it didn’t happen. How
could it really? Kevin Durant claims his 3rd POTW award with half
the 1st place votes over Brook Lopez after averaging 35.8 points,
6.8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.3 blocks on 55% shooting and 26/26
from the line, leading the Celtics to a 4-0 week. Is it really plausible to
vote against that? Hell no! KD leading the hottest team in the league with
massive numbers. Bring it! Congratulations Kevin Durant on 3x POTW!
West POTW
– Derrick Rose
The West was a similarly easy race this week with Derrick Rose claiming
his 2nd award with over half the 1st place votes ahead of
Jrue Holiday. Rose led the Jazz to a massive 5-0 week with averages of 31.6
points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.2 blocks on 55% shooting.
He’s the heart and soul of the Jazz and the important take away here is the
efficiency which has been an issue at times. If he can play like this week in
and week out, look out West and NLL! Congratulations Derrick Rose on 2x POTW!
West
ROTW – Stanley Johnson
Ok so here’s the first surprise of the voting process! Stanley Johnson
claims the ROTW award by just 2 points ahead of Jahlil Okafor, with only 20% of
the 1st place votes! Russell and Okafor had 33% each, but the
preference votes got him over the line as a starter for the Spurs who went 3-1.
He put up averages of 17 points, 2.3 rebounds, 5 assists and 0.5 blocks on 56%
shooting. The kid came across from the Clippers for a massive price, but he’s
already showing dividends for the Spurs and has a bright future.
Congratulations Stanley Johnson of ROTW for Week 13!
East
ROTW – Kristaps Porzingis
Out
East we had a genuine battle again this week with Porzingis fresh off his week
off with the POTW nomination, and Karl-Anthony Towns up against him. Zinga
claimed the award by 2 points over KAT with 45% of the 1st place
votes, compared to KATs 55%! The preference votes win again. This is the 6th
time for Kristaps and he averaged 16.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.5
blocks and the Hornets managed a 3-1 week on his back. He wasn’t as efficient
this week shooting it only 38%, but it didn’t matter and he continues to be the
main competition for DeAngelo Russell for ROTY. Congratulations Kristaps
Porzingis on 6x ROTW!
Congratulations to the
winners in Week 13, and for the month of December, and may the odds be forever
in your favour!
