The Suns are HOT. Riding the heatwave of a 19 game winning streak, the Suns have surged up the standings all the way to 3 seed, and if they continue to just not lose, can make a play on a top 2 seed in the playoffs if the thunder and clippers continue to wobble. Kevin Durant has continued to show why he is one of the greatest scorers ever, while Jimmy Butler and Kyle Lowry continue to be reliable secondary options.

The Thunder remains a top tier while being guided by one of the best duos the league has ever seen, Kawhi Leonard and Lebron James. At 10-1 in their last 11, they continue to be a model of consistency and their defense is STIFLING. At 90 PPG the Thunder have the best defense in the league, and when your unit is spearheaded by Lebron, Kawhi, and Draymond Green, that will come as no surprise. Look for the thunder to continue to and go all out on finishing the season strong and holding on to the number one seed.

The sixers come in at 3, as they start to pick up steam again with a 5 game winning streak in place. With the dynamic and electric backcourt of James Harden and Damian Lillard, this team has the firepower to go toe to toe with any backcourt in league history. With Rudy Gobert manning the paint, and A young Zion Williamson slamming and banging down low, this team has top-tier talent at every possible level of the game and has a great bench to pick up the slack when the starters need a blow. This team can be a serious threat in the playoffs so them getting hot should put the eastern conference, and a certain team in the East, on notice.

At the fourth slot, the wizards come in and are shooting up the rankings. Led by Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons, this team has been playing exceptionally well lately and is getting hot at the right time. A team that a month ago, executives around the league believed would be a low seeded Cinderella just trying to make the play in, now are trying to assert themselves and make a run at home court advantage. Can they pull a rabbit out of the hot and be a dark horse team to push for a second round or possible Eastern Conference Finals appearance?

At 5 we have a team that has started to show some chinks in the armor. The defending champs still remain the team to beat, and the best team top to bottom, but in what looks to be a mid season slump similar to those of past champions or potential dynasty like teams, where in these late spring months are looking ahead to the playoffs. The Bucks have dropped a few games lately that would be considered easy gimme games, so nobody should be overly concerned, but their fans and front office should remain focused on the task at hand, which is always the toughest task for champions: repeating.

The Brooklyn Nets have been on fire offensively lately, and Wardell Stephen Curry has been at the forefront leading the charge. Steph has been on another level this season and is on pace to run away with the MVP award. When you average 40 a game, and are surrounded with guys like De'Aaron Fox, Caris Levert, and anchored with a versatile big man like Damontas Sabonis, you are bound to put up points. This team has the offensive output to keep up with any team in the league, but as the season winds down and the playoffs creep up, look for this team to try and get more comfortable on the defensive end to make a serious run at the championship this year.

The Hornets are another eastern conference team with a great offense and they have been a consistent threat all season long. The fact they are playing this well on offense without star point guard Jamal Murray goes to show how deep and talented this roster is. The duo of Joel Embiid and Kristaps Porzingus has been extremely difficult to stop and will be a true riddle for defenses to figure out as the playoffs begin shortly.

The Knicks have been a team that has gotten hot at the right time. A squad that at the midway point was a lottery team, now boasts a 17-7 record since April 30th and are trying to climb out of the play-in tournament. An offense spearheaded by Donovan Mitchell and Julius Randle, they also possess multiple scorers who can hurt you at different levels. This is a team that, given a good matchup, can upset a high seeded team if their offense explodes for a series and plays consistent enough to hold their match up to a decent offensive output. Look for the Knicks to keep up the heat and force their way out of the play in.

The Los Angeles Clippers are sliding. They have lost control of the one seed and are in jeopardy of losing home court advantage throughout the playoffs. That unfortunately is not the main issue in LA. This team has been battered by injuries and that is really starting to show in the late spring and they are struggling to find scoring from guys not named Jayson Tatum. With no Jaylen Brown or Victor Oladipo for the rest of the year, the Clippers lost two big time starters. They also lost Kemba Walker for a big stretch, but he’s back in the lineup now and that should give Tatum some much needed relief on the offensive end. But with JB and Dipo out, this team will really struggle with defense in the postseason, and though they have a significant lead on the Suns for a top 2 seed, With the way both of these teams have been playing, it’s not out of the question for the Clippers to fall to even the 3 seed before the playoffs begin.

The Joker led rockets have been a very fun team to follow this year and have continued that story as of late. During the middle of the year, it was mainly the Nikola Jokic show. This team went as far as he could take them on a nightly basis, and the dark horse MVP candidate was carrying them on his back. However as of late, thanks in part to a big time mid season trade, there has been some weight taken off of Jokic’s shoulders. Guys like Marcus Morris, Tyler Herro, and Jerami Grant have been very good secondary options in giving Jokic some relief on the offensive end and consistency with putting the ball in the cup. This team is deep enough and plays good enough defense to make a serious playoff run, because they’re one of the better offensive teams and can get extremely hot from three-point land for a stretch of games. If they can stay healthy and put the pieces together, a Western Conference Finals birth is not out of the question for Houston.

The Dallas Mavericks are a team that has slid down the western conference standings in the back half of the season and don’t have much to blame other than inconsistent play. A team that has been relatively healthy during this stretch, has gotten unlucky with a tough schedule, but also just stretches of inconsistency from the offense has let them down. Look for them to try and straighten out their problems to avoid playing a highly seeded western conference foe, sending them home early in the playoffs.

But riding a 3 game losing streak, and 2-8 over the last ten, new management has taken over. And the team does not seem to be responding well on the court.
