N/A No players.
B- Terry Rozier (#16), Sam Dekker (#18), Dakari Johnson (#43), Tyler Harvey (#52), Dimitrios Agravanis (#58) So, here we go, another team in full on rebuild. Lots of picks and we’ll go right to the first one of them in Rozier, who’s been drawing comparisons to Dwayne Wade according to his tapes. He can certainly take contact and navigate through traffic with no fear. We’ll see how much like Wade he really is. Next up is Dekker, a do-it-all forward, a type that is trending around the league. Comparisons to Chandler Parsons have been drawn, but I wouldn’t go that far at all. Dakari is a former highly touted prospect who is now a reluctant second rounder for GMs. Dakari had the biggest body fat of any player at the NBA combine this year. He’ll bring rebounds, and a little bit of rim protection, if and when he makes it into our league. Now Harvey is a guy I like, leading scorer in the nation, can light it up from waaay back there. Limitless range, but is rail thin and not at all athletic, which could make it easier for NBA guards to bully him. He can make any shot, though. Lastly, Dimitiros who? Is he the next Greek Freak?. Naaah!!!
C+ Anthony Brown (#38), Darrun Hilliard (#47), Cady Lalanne (#56) Sacramento picked up what could be one of the sleepers of this draft in Anthony Brown, a player who fell on both sides of the draftverse because teams think his age limits his upside. But he is a great player, with the ability of making all the shots and whatever the team needs to do to win. Brown will find a way to make it in this league, of that I’m sure, plus he’s in a great situation. Up next is Hilliard, who plays like a savvy veteran, picking his spots and draining his buckets when he has to, plus gives his heart on defense. Lalanne is a great shot blocker, with a good bit of potential due to his still evolving game, needs to be coached hard before he can take the court, plus bulking up is needed.
N/A No players.
B Frank Kaminsky (#15), Willy Hernangomez (#35), Daniel Diez (#55) Toronto went with safety, after going for the home-run swing last draft with Kyle Anderson. GM Juvenile took one of the most prepared players in the first round and one that already plays like a seasoned veteran in Willy. Frank “The Tank”!! One of the most famous college players in the country, does everything well and is a hard worker who you’ll always know what you’ll get from him. His range extends till the 3-point line, he’s making them! Willy is a player that could very well be playing on the bench for an NBA player for a while. He’s the perfect role model for efficiency and playing the game the right way. He is what he I, though, very low ceiling, but you get an asset right away. Oh, and there is Diez too, who is a player that has a soft touch, but also hustles around on D. Could be a potential scorer off the bench. See you in 3 years, Daniel!
B- Joseph Young (#36), Olivier Hanlan (#37) GM Merencio, not surprinsingly given his track record, found himself into the second round where he worked out 2 trades with GM Digeze and ended up buying his way into the party. Decided to go with the best player available with both picks, at #36 there was the guy the team wanted the most in the second round, Mr. Joe Young. GM Merencio paced around throughout the late part of the first, all through the break, and then in the early second picks, just anxiously waiting for his pick, thinking someone would snatch up their target, but then he fell right onto their lap after Toronto made his choice. GM Merencio was ecstatic! Young brings dead-eye shooting who is ready to contribute despite his rail thin frame. He has blow-by ability and can be used as a playmaker as well, despite being an SG inside a PG’s body. He’ll have to handle the rock in order to make it in the league, but if summer league is any indication (it isn’t!), so yeah. Next on their second consecutive pick, the Jazz selected another shooter in Olivier Hanlan, which is a combo guard that can also play the part of spark off the bench. He draws a lot of fouls every game and can make shots from anywhere on the court. His average athleticism limits his upside, though.
A Trill, who actually changed his legal name to that (why on Earth?) making him WTCS now, is probably THE surest thing in the draft. You know what you are getting. Rebounds, rim protection, size, hustle and Defense, all packed into an athletic type that is so rare to find in big men. Love his game, but no offense besides putbacks, though. Rumor has it this pick doesn’t belong to Washington, but the value here at this position is great!
