Team by Team: New Jersey Nets
2011-2012 Finish: 44-22

Season Highlight

They got a GM! Proid joined NJ last off-season and actually stayed the whole time.T his has to be a record for Nets basketball, and there couldn't have been a better GM than Proid to take the reins. The Nets also win 14 of their last 15 games, led by Dwayne Wade, who had 4 straight 30 point or more games. Highlights included a 114-110 win over the Evil Empire in their arena with overtime play and a 37 point smashing of the Golden State Warriors.

Season Lowlight

After beating the Magic by 13 in their 14-1 stretch, the Nets could only pull out 1 win in the 1st round of the playoffs. Orlando proved to be the more clutch team winning 2 of the 3 games decided by 5 points or less. Usual lesser role players like Mickael Pietrus and Shane Battier stepped their game up and along with the tandem of Pau Gasol and Deron Williams they wouldn't be stopped. The Nets' season was over before most expected it. Jokingly, GM Proid said that the playoffs were “a total bust”, but I could've taken that as the serious answer.

Best Trade

The Nets get 22 gm points for a pick becomes Marquis Teague. It's possible thatTeague becomes a decent NBA player but for 22 GM points it wasn't a bad deal at all. Proid was able to turn that 22 into free agency talents of Gilbert Arenas, and just might still have some of those points to spend.

Worst Trade

The Nets send Mehmet Okur, Josh Childress, Rudy Fernandez, Taj Gibson,Jimmy Butler, a 2nd rounder, and 30 points out for... nothing but cap space really. Alright, he did get Micheal Beasley and Joel Anthony in the deal, but Beasley will now likely be on his way out via free agency, and not even Joel Anthony's hustle is worth guys like Rudy Fernandez and Taj Gibson. This does give him a lot of cap space for this year's free agency pool, which we'll get to later. I think most people would consider the trade for Baron Davis the new city Nets' worst trade last season. Davis ended up playing limited minutes, and became even less important once Arenas jumped on board.

Other Notable Trades

The Nets trade Grant Hill, Jason Kidd, Landry Fields, and Kyle Korver for Steve Nash and Gerald Wallace. Nash is reported to get traded from the team once the official off-season starts, but he was arguably the 2nd best player on the Nets this year. Proid also sent out Emeka Okafor to get Shaun Livingston, CJ Miles, and Ronny Turiaf, but he did get a 2nd rounder, and a very good amount of GM points.

Best FA Signing

The Nets bring in Gilbert Arenas mid-season, for a scoring punch to their bench, the once superstar guard averaging 13 points a game in 25 games off the bench and 8 starts. Proid commented on this move saying, “I thought Gilbert's impact would've been a bit more pronounced”, but I still feel he made a good impact on the team.

Worst FA Signing

The Nets signed a ton of bench bigs this year, but only Erick Dampier played more than 10 games for the Nets. 62 % shooting though, not too shabby.

Star

Dwyane Wade-SG- Wade was one of the NLL's best this year, dropping 26 a night, while also grabbing 5 rebounds. Wade's hero ball, helped the nets into a top 5 seed in the East, but I already told you what happened next. The Nets are lucky to have a guy like Wade to build a new and fresh team around, and even with the new guys and a I knew home, I don't think his play will fall off at all.

Surprise

Michael Beasley-PF- You know you didn't expect Michael Beasley to be a 20 point scorer. You know you didn't expect him to shoot 56 % either. That's exactly what Mike did, with a 7.4 in +/-. In my opinion, he's one of, if not the most, underrated player in the league, and he did work this year. Only bad thing is, rumor has it, he's on his way out of the Nets organization. Look out for him to get big money in free agency.

Goat

Baron Davis-PG- 33 out of the 66 games,injury-plagued, and as I said before arguably the worst trade made by the Nets for him. I guess you could say 6 points in 11 minutes per games is efficient, but it's clear Davis' career is on a downward spiral and he wasn't really needed by the Nets. Now he's just one of the Nets many free agents (will get back to this soon).

Draft Report Card

The Nets drafted Kentucky PG Marquis Teague at 26th in the recent draft, but within hours he was sent away to Milwaukee as part of an earlier deal. And that was it for the Nets on draft night, nothing else to see here.

Looking to the Future

You may have noticed that I've pretty much only referred to the team as “the Nets” all article. Well now, I can reveal this “big secret”. The Nets are moving to Brooklyn!!! Proid,Jay-Z, and Prokorvov packed their bags and sent the team on quick trip to their new home. Dwayne Wade's really the only guy that came though. As of now, only 3 players are under contract for Brooklyn, in Wade, Charlie Villanueva, and Jerome Jordan. Jordan surprised many with his performance this year, but many feel he'll be in the D-League by season's start and Charlie V's mega contract isn't really equaling his playing performances.

Upcoming Free Agents

Right now the only free agent rumored to return to the team is Metta World Peace, and his eccentric personality may not even be wanted anymore. The good part of this is that the Nets are left with a ton of cap space, to go after big free agents like Goran Dragic,Nic Batum, and Ray Allen. With the room they have, I wouldn't be surprised if the Nets are right back in the playoff race, by next season's end.
