NLL Insider - Team by Team: Boston Celticsby pennywise , updated on Saturday, October 12 2019, 07:03 pm EST
Season Highlight:
Making the playoffs as the 8th seed, even though they had players
constantly injured or underperforming.
Boston has been a force behind GM JMac during his entire tenure in the
NLL. Season Lowlight: The
Celtics not getting deep enough in the playoffs must be a let down, when they
were in the finals or conference finals most of the last few seasons. Best Trade: The
Boston Celtics send Nene Hilario and Kevin Durant to the Chicago
Bulls. The Chicago Bulls send Stephen Curry to the Boston Celtics. An injured KD, who will miss all on the 19-20 season, and
an aging Nene, plus picks for one of the best players in the game. The Celts continue to mortgage their future
to play for the present, but at least Curry is locked up for a long time. Worst Trade: The Boston Celtics send Paul
Millsap to the Denver Nuggets. The Denver Nuggets send Tristan Thompson
and Andre Roberson to the Boston Celtics. Millsap was better than both Thompson and Roberson
combined. Roberson never really played
last year and Thompson is a niche player.
Other Notable Trades: The Boston Celtics send Tristan
Thompson and Marcus Georges-Hunt to the Miami Heat. The Miami Heat
send Joe Ingles and Jevon Carter to the Boston Celtics. Ingles was expected to right the ship for the Celts, but
didn’t really fit well enough to be a great trade. The Boston Celtics send Tyreke Evans
and Kyle O'Quinn to the Orlando Magic. The Orlando Magic send Jonas Valanciunas
to the Boston Celtics. The Boston Celtics send a 1st-Rounder (Den) to the
Orlando Magic. Dumped the deteriorating Evans and
underperforming O’Quinn and got a top notch back to basket big man in
return. It was this or Curry for best
trade. The Boston Celtics send Wayne Ellington, Bismack
Biyombo and Andre Roberson to the Utah Jazz. The Utah Jazz send Chris
Paul and Khem Birch to the Boston Celtics. Another solid pick up. Paul is aging, but is still an elite
NLL PG. Ellington is a nice player but
can’t sway a game like CP3. The Detroit Pistons send Nene Hilario to the Boston
Celtics. The Detroit Pistons send Noah Vonleh to the LA Lakers. The LA
Lakers send Marcus Morris to the Detroit Pistons. The Boston Celtics
send a 2nd-Rounder (LAC) to the LA Lakers. The Detroit Pistons send a 2nd-Rounder
(NY) to the LA Lakers. 2nd rounder for Nene to be a backup… not bad. The Boston Celtics send Danny Green to the
Washington Wizards. The Washington Wizards send Jeremy Lin to the Boston
Celtics. Green was better overall than Lin, but this was a trade for
need, with PG injuries. The Boston Celtics send Pau Gasol and Patrick
Beverley to the Sacramento Kings. The Miami Heat send Bismack Biyombo
to the Boston Celtics. The Sacramento Kings send Mike Muscala and Joe
Ingles to the Miami Heat. The Boston Celtics send a 2nd-Rounder (Pho)
to the Sacramento Kings. The Miami Heat send a 2nd-Rounder (LAC) and 1st-Rounder
(Mia) to the Boston Celtics. Traded for a backup C, but he underperformed. The
Boston Celtics send Darren Collison and Dakari Johnson to the Minnesota
Timberwolves. The Minnesota Timberwolves send Etwaun Moore and Cameron Payne to
the New York Knicks. The New York Knicks send Pau Gasol to the Boston Celtics. The
Minnesota Timberwolves send a 1st-Rounder (Min) to the Boston Celtics. The
Minnesota Timberwolves send a 2nd-Rounder (Min) to the New York Knicks. Man, the Celts make a lot of trades
:p The Boston Celtics send Skal Labissiere to the
Golden State Warriors. Great value for a guy not even worth
a 1st. Free Agency: Jonas Valanciunas – Fully expect the Celts to resign this guy. Jeremy Lin – Should not waste their time. Linsanity has died. Vince Carter Roster filler at this point. Likely walks. James Ennis – Good player, but role player only. Khem Birch – Young project. JMac likes him tho. Tyler Lydon – Likely lets walk. Star: Kevin Durant One of the
top 4 NLL players, and he continued to be elite last year. He carried the Celtics with an astronomical
40 PPG. He is the reason Boston was
relevant, even with all the issues last year. Goat: Tyreke Evans Played
only 21 games, and was an integral part of the 2017-18 team. His inability to get/stay on the court
drastically affected the ability for Boston to change up things. Many trades were made to overcome this guy. Draft Grades (from Insider): N/A Boston
tends to trade away picks for proven talent. The Future- playoff bound Boston
continues to flip most of the roster, but a strong starting unit of Steph
Curry, Josh Richardson, Kyle Kuzma, Serge Ibaka and Jonas Valanciunas will keep
the Celtics as a team to worry about in the East. Iguodala will be a good 6th man,
but Boston will need to get some impact players in free agency to be more
dangerous come playoff time. |
