Half Season Review
It’s
been an exciting start to the season for the Atlanta Hawks but it’s not been
without its challenges. The team hasn’t been consistent in the win/loss column. GM bandrsn10 has spent many sleepless nights
working on potential trades, watching tape, and configuring lineup decisions. All of this effort will be in vain if the team can’t figure
out ways to win. There have been solid contributors on the court, namely Jrue
Holiday and Greg Monroe. There have been some surprises such as Darrell Arthur
and Domantas Sabonis. Right now, it seems that the team is destined to stay
near the bottom half of the East unless a couple of things happen. In this author’s opinion, 45% is a solid shooting percentage
and the team often exceeds that figure. Therefore, the defense of the team is
heavily called into question. This will be an area of focus for the GM for the
2nd half of the season, whether through playbook changes or through
trades. The second thing that must happen is that Markelle Fultz
needs to return from injury. He might arguably be the team’s best player and he
hasn’t played a second of NLL ball. With him back in the rotation, the coach
can get a little creative with lineups. He was a great scorer back in
Washington and that should translate well to the league, helping out with the
first issue above. His defense will have to grow as he progresses through his career.
He’s been teasing a return via his Instagram and has been participating in 5v5
drills. Is a return imminent?
