FA Day 1 - Big Bizzy and JJ

Bismack Biyombo finds out for the first time that he was to play alongside JJ Redick.

FA Day 1 - Big Bizzy and JJ

The tail of the tape was an interesting one to say the least. The chocolates fell in the favour and out of favour with the Heat and by the day’s end, the Miami Heat had secured two players that bring a competitive spirit to the franchise. The likes of George Hill and Jeremy Lin went by the wayside. However, GM Breece was ecstatic with how everything eventuated on paper.

The Miami Heat were able to work some magic during the negotiation period securing the signatures of JJ Redick and Bismack Biyombo. JJ Redick signing in a death-knock with 0.2% difference between the two teams vying – the other team being the Washington Wizards. Fans were in raptures throughout the state when the news came through that two new players had been signed.

JJ Redick (SG)

JJ Redick signed on with the Miami Heat for a one-year deal. The veteran shooting guard comes into the squad during a rebuild and a time of great excitement for the future. Redick turned down other offers in the hopes of more playing time and starting 5 action at the Heat. Redick comes into the season with a new-found gusto and presence on court. With a current 2k rating of 79 – and a NBA start that has seen him achieving across all statistics, Redick could be the shooting guard needed after the quite recent departure of veteran mainstay – Rudy Gay (who signed to the Portland Trailblazers last season). Over his past 5 games in the NBA he has been able to post an average of 13.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists which the Heat are hoping he can bring into the team and build upon within the NLL.

JJ Redick also signs for the Heat as a free agent from the Charlotte Hornets who narrowly missed playoffs basketball.
“I do not want to have another repeat of last season – a team that should have been playing during the 4th quarter so to speak. I want to bring the fire back to the Heat.”
Redick also stated that he wanted to make the Shooting Guard position his and become a mainstay in Miami.

Bismack Biyombo (C)

Bismack Biyombo signs with the Miami Heat for a two-year deal with one player option. The 25-year-old Congolese center signed after his name was on the clock as the Heat evaluated their intentions within the draft period. The defensive presence of Biyombo was a huge catalyst for the organization to acquire his signature. Breece was able to get him to sign on the dotted line.
“I am happy to sign with this organization and for believing in my abilities.”

GM Breece has already made headlines with his thoughts on the 4 man rotational swing of Mozgov, Powell, Biyombo and Frye. The team has been able to secure another big that can open up other big men to explore their scoring potential.

This new acquisition also opens up the table for who will complement these 4 bigs at Power Forward and Center. With new standout 1st Rounder – Kyle Kuzma continuing to light up the court. The Miami Heat will be searching the FA Window to secure a complementary player to Kuzma in the Small Forward realms.

WHAT’S IN A RESULT?

One thing is for sure - the old guard of the Miami Heat are no longer. Having played in a preseason match against the Milwaukee Bucks - the team went down 121-66. Against a far more talented list the old guard was shown up in an embarassing display.

The supporting cast of player showed why changes needed to be made in Miami. The starting 5 showed that they could not handle themselves against the league's best. The starters being: Mozgov, Powell, Jefferson, Harris, Augustin

With a new starting 5 of: Biyombo, Powell, Kuzma, Redick, Augustin
The Miami Heat look far more competitive.
