![]() July 11, 2010 | Miami Acquires 4 Players on Draft Day ![]() Sunday started with the predictable selection of Evan Turner with the 2nd pick in the 2010 NLL Draft. GM TMac then found a way to give Turner the starting job from day one - trading Jason Richardson. While it was hard to say goodbye the the sharp shooting guard, it was ultimately a necessary move to facilitate the growth of Turner. In return for J-Rich, Miami receieved from Chicago TJ Ford to backup Curry, Anthony Parker to start at SF, and the rights to Greivis Vasquez, the #23 pick in this years draft. The Heat will also get Chicago's 2nd round pick in the 2011 draft. "We thought it was important to fill out our roster and clear room for Evan," said TMac after the trade was announced. Miami will also have more cap space in their pursuit for a top notch free agent. ![]() ![]() - 9.8 ppg, 42% FG, 37% 3P - Pietrus came to the Heat in a pre-season trade with the Lakers and went on to play considerable minutes for the team. The sharp shooting swingman brought dependable defense to the wing and stretched the floor with his solid shooting. Pietrus, like several other Heat players, has agreed to take less money this season as the team attempts to bring in more quality players. ![]() ![]() Just one week after entertaining a private workout for Evan Turner, the Heat will host DeMarcus Cousins and Derrick Favors in a combined workout within the next couple of days. The duo are set to appear in Phoenix first before arriving in Miami. The team loved what they saw from Turner, but with the news of Kendrick Perkins' 5-6 month rehab, Miami could be forced to draft based on need. "We're impressed with all three," said GM TMac, "but a decision won't come until draft day - it will definitely be one of these three." In other news, Miami has received several offers for the #11 pick but none that have convinced TMac to give it up. ![]() ![]() - 20.2 ppg, 3.4 rbs, 50% FG - An early February trade brought J-Rich to Miami, and it's a deal that GM TMac would do again in a heart beat. While they lost veteran Steve Nash, they also dumped DeSagana Diop's bad contract and also gained a second lottery pick. Richardson immediately became the team's go-to scorer. Several voices around the league have suggested trading him this offseason, but a move won't be made hastily. J-Rich should provide the type of floor stretching needed in the new 2K system. ![]() ![]() - 12.9 ppg, 7.1 rbs, 57% FG - Hickson, the 21st pick in the 2008 draft (and TMac's first as owner of the team) was a big contributor to the Heat this season. Named a starter in week 7, Hickson finished the season as one of the most consistent players for the team. He increased his scoring by 9 points over his freshman campaign and will now enter next season as the favorite to start at PF. If he can improve his FT shooting and defense, Hickson could become a solid NLL player for many years to come. ![]() ![]() - 14.0 ppg, 4.1 ast, 1.3 stl - Stephen Curry's inaugural season in the NLL had its ups and downs. As a spot-starter until week 6, Curry was underwhelming coming off the bench. However, once Nash was traded and more minutes were open for him, he shined at both SG and PG. Perhaps the most telling stat for Curry was points per month, which increased each month: 8(DEC)-12-16-19-27(MAY). Curry projects to be the longterm PG for the Heat and a cornerstone of the franchise. Last year's #5 overall pick has much room to grow and at times struggled with this shot, but a switch to the 2K series will work wonders. ![]() |
