Sixers Notes

03-13-2016

PHILADELPHIA- With a nail-biting victory on Saturday night against the Orlando Magic, the Sixers became the first team to clinch a playoff berth this season.

“It’s a great feeling, to continue our perennial success,” GM VT said. “There are still a few weeks left in the season. We will use that time to gel as a team and figure out the best way to beat our opponents.”

The Sixers currently have the best record in the league. However, the Kevin Durant and the Boston Celtics are only a half game behind and the Cleveland Cavs, sporting a new GM and the only team to beat the Sixers recently, are only three games back.

GM VT will definitely be watching the standings in the coming weeks. The team’s first round opponent could be Kobe Bryant and the Toronto Raptors, newly returned GM Nick’s Atlanta Hawks or longtime friend and rival Proid’s Miami Heat. Once a serious contender, the Indiana Pacers seem like a longshot to make the postseason as star Blake Griffin is still recovering from a broken hand and a nightmare PR season.

“Any of those teams will be tough,” GM VT said. “We will be prepared for any of them though.”

Both the Hawks and Raptors have suffered some serious injury news recently. Atlanta scoring machine O.J. Mayo will miss the remainder of the season after fracturing his leg and Raptors guard Michael Carter-Williams is set for surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip and will also miss the rest of the season.

The injury bug has also bit the Sixers recently. Backup point guard Mo Williams continues to sit out with an injury to left knee and will likely miss a few weeks. In his place, Devin Harris will spot Damian Lillard. Little used guard Ben McLemore will also miss this week due to a non-displaced fracture of his right middle finger. Finally, starting center Pau Gasol is dealing with swelling in his knee. The Sixers will let him play a few games, but if the swelling doesn’t let up, they will rest their starting center as not to jeopardize him for the playoffs.

In other news, the Sixers have channeled their inner DaveD and signed big man Greg Smith to a 10-day contract. A former fan (and GM) favorite in New Orleans, it is unlikely Smith will see much court time for the Sixers, taking the place of the traded Dewayne Dedmon (who went to Detroit for a 2nd rounder).
