ROOKIE OF THE WEEK WATCH - Week 1

PLAYERTEAMWHYWHY NOTSTATS

Brandon Ingram

PER 23.05

MVP

-
Ingram was spectacular, showing no signs of being too thin too hang with the big boys, which was his knock heading into the season. With Dirk out, he was thrust into a starting role and boy did he shine. Ingram averaged 27 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists and helped his team win 3 of 4 games.Perhaps his numbers were a case of more opportunity than the other rooks, Ingram played 35 minutes per game and had 109 field goal attempts for the week.

MVP

-
Pascal the rascal. Was a thorn in the side of teams who thought they could get one over the Magic and their inexperienced big man. Pascal covered the departed Brook Lopez admirably, averaging 10 points, 10 rebounds and 1 steal per game. The Magic also won 3 of 4 games with the 22 year old rookie at center.Who many of you are wondering? This guy is not well known at all, and that will probably cost him votes, despite a nice week stats wise.

Jamal Murray

PER 22.03

MVP

-
Murray is the second Hornet nominated for the rookie of the week, and while his teammate is probably the favourite, Murray was also really solid, averaging 14 points and 6 rebounds, to go along woth 50% from the field and 45% from three. These are rock solid percentages from a guy in his first week of NLL basketball.Again, his teammate Ingram had the bigger impact in terms of the box score, Murray also logged big minutes at 35 per game.

Jaylen Brown

PER 25.06

MVP

-
A very interesting pick, which bounced around on draft day due to a clerical error, the ultra athletic Brown is often compared to Jason Richardson, and he showed a lot of that in his first week. Brown was a shining light for the rebuilding Blazers averaging 23 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. The Blazers went 0-4, probably cant blame that on the rook, probably the roster in general. But still, a minus 11.8 doesn't bode well for votes. Unless you just look at the scoring volume.
