New boy in town, Spurs' Denar DeRozan

Slam Dunk championship have seen better days. Days when Jordan battled Nique, when Vinsanity was Half man, half amazing adn T-Mac was close. When young Kobe took the competition by storm. Days when real stars battled for the crown. Now we get 3-rate starlets like Green, Brown and Robinson. Howard was there for two years to boost his ego. So is Nate the greatest dunker of all times with 3 All-Star Slam Dunk championships under his belt? Is he top 10? Ok, Top 20?

The biggest problem is, fans lose interest. Stars avoid the competition, dunks are lukewarm, many dunkers lose to much attempts and time to finish,. and all the good dunks were already done. Is there anything new to show? Fancy dresses? Stupid schemes?

But the NLL competition is different. Electrifying. Not as star studded as it could be, but everyone shines.

So round one.

Poor Crash. He earned a perfect 50 for his first attempt, a nice of the knee pass with behind the back windmill, but chose a simple two handed slam for the second attempt. Judges weren't impressed, at all. 32 points later... bye bye Gerald, doubt you'll hear us calling again.

Nate the Great was the other player with perfect 50 for his first dunk, a great tomahawk for wich he used the camera high behind the backboard. He tried a similar dunk with some spinning for the second try, but only earned 46 points. Enough only for the tiebreaker.

Demar De Rozan was a fan favorite before the competition. Young, ultra athletic, with some great in game dunks. His first dunk was maybe a bit simple tomahawk slam. He did better in his second try with almost 360°between the legs slam. Judges went nuts, straight 10s for the tiebreakr.

And for the first time in the hystory of the game we had a 3 way tiebreaker. Shannon Brown, probably the best in game dunker between them all tried a 180° windmill dunk in round 1. Not good enough, only 46 points, facing the elimination. SO he turned it up a notch for his second try and tried a 360° dunk. Straight tens, continue to the tiebreaker please.

Tiebreaker 1

Three guys, one lose. Everyone tried their best, the feeling of predetermination was in the air when Shannon Brown's cartwheel windmill dunk wasn't good enough. Creativity not appreciated? Nate went to the finals with the same dunk he used before, cmon. At Least DD did something different, and nice.

Finals - Nate vs Demar

First try. Nate predictably with of the back camera tomahawk slam, a monser variant to be honest. Demar with similar dunk, more spin, less tomahawk. Both dunks worth fifty points.

Second try. Nate with something different this time. Behind the back self alley up with between the legs 360°spin slam dunk. Surely a winner. But DD (and judges) say not so fast boys. Use the big screen behind the backboard? sure. Spin a lot? Sure. 50 points? Sure.

Was Nate actually robbed in this round? Meh, let them bring it once more, we could watch a bit longer. it's entertainment.

Tiebreaker 2

Both players missed a few attempts and decided for a simpler dunk in the end. Demar for a off the bounce tomahawk, Nate for a 360°off the bounce spin. Spins are worth less then tomahawks, obviously.

Demar DeRozan,

the promising guard of the San Antonio Spurs is Sprite 2010 NLL All Star Slam Dunk Champion.
