We Are In!

With only two games remaining in the regular season, the New Orleans Pelicans have clinched the final spot in the play in games for the Western Conference playoffs. It was getting close during week 20, with the Golden State Warriors making a late charge behind some elite play by Bam Adebayo and Cole Anthony, but with New Orleans getting a win over Utah and Golden State falling short against Charlotte, the top ten was finalised.

Their opponents will be the Denver Nuggets, who have somewhat surprised the league, after a slow start to the year, regrouped, retooled and propelled themselves into the play in games. The two squads have faced off three times in the 2021 season and the Pelicans have the advantage, winning two of the three contests but the two wins were earlier in the season and both squads have transformed quite a bit since then, with New Orleans moving on from the likes of Nikola Vucevic and John Wall and Denver have brought in some quality talent, adding the services of Malcolm Brogdan and Joe Ingles at the dead line.

In a do or die, one game scenario, anything can happen and New Orleans coaching stuff will be putting in some long hours leading up to the game, hinting that they might throw a spanner in the works when it comes to their starting line up and rotational options.

Despite only winning 25 games this season, this season was somewhat of a success. After trading away their first round selection in the up coming draft, making the playoffs was a must, which they have an opportunity to break into. Adding two injured super stars that will return next season, the Pelicans franchise looks like it might finally be on the way up. No matter what happens against Denver in the coming week, there are some green shoots in the big easy.
