Smooth Sailing

After stumbling out of the gates a bit, at least relative to expectations, the Nets lost only two games in the second quarter of the season - one to the Thunder and one to the Hornets. This puts them at least in the group that they want to be in - the best of the best... but they have yet to actually beat one of these premium-tier teams.

The big issue currently seems to be whether they have the firepower to just figure some things out and have a real shot at a championship... and if not, they need to make some changes to either have that chance or control costs so that the luxury payment doesn't kill them.

The team is yet to have their best 6 players on the court at the same time. Caris LeVert has now recovered from a cancer scare, but only just in time for Steph to take two weeks off. Assuming they can start the 3rd quarter of the season healthy - they will hopefully have a week or two to see what they're capable of prior to the trade deadline and any big decisions they'd make.

Steph has been an absolute monster - really just running away with the MVP race at this point due to his scoring, efficiency, and impact on team success.

Everybody else has been essentially playing their role. Khris and De'Aaron look better than they've ever looked before and are probably playing all-star level basketball in their own right. Sabonis and Adams have been doing what they need to on the interior - although Domas is probably the one player that is underachieving related to what he's capable of... possibly just a situation of "only one ball to go around". Finally, Caris has looked good in the handful of games he's been in so far - putting up a very nice 17 ppg on 46/50/100 shooting.

It remains to be seen what 5 will start and finish games for the Nets - LeVert has looked great in the starting lineup... so could Fox go back to his super-sub role despite being #2 in the league in assists/game, top 10 in steals and just playing great ball? Time will tell!
