The Season Thus Far

Yesterday we released our peice on the T-Wolves rookies. Today we sit down with GM Jonathan to discuss the season thus far and the general outlook he has for this team moving forward.

Jonathan thanks for taking the time out of you busy schedule to talk to us today

JJ: No problem. Thanks for having me.

We'd be remiss if we didn't immediately hit you with a Kevin Love question. What's the scoop with him?

JJ: Well, he's been injured. Kevin has played just 4 games for us this year. We know he wants out, but its been difficult to find a trade partner given his chronic injuries this season. We did have a deal lined up for him, but they fell through after he went down with his most recent injury.

Is there an update on his injuries?

JJ: Yeah, we think he could return relatively soon. The hope is within the next week or two. We've been upfront with him, and likely we hold onto him for the remainder of the season and then we'll re-evaluate his trade market this summer.

Patty Mills has been a pleasant surprise for the team this year, but his contract expires at seasons end. What's your plan for him going forward?

JJ: Patty wants to win and we can't promise him that right now. He has asked for a trade to a contender if possible, but he's also said how much he's appreciated the opportunity he's had here and we'd love to convince him to stay with us for another couple years. At this point it could go either way, but we love Patty and we'll do whatever makes sense for both parties.

Jakob Poeltl has really started to come around recently with multiple 20+ rebound games. He's looking like a cornerstone for this franchise.

JJ: Yes, 100%. We love his effort. He's a big part of what we do night in and night out. In fact, he's part of the reason why Patty Mills and to a lesser extent Duncan Robinson have caught fire these last few weeks. Jakob is one of the best screen setters in the league and that's been helpful for our back court. But more than that, his ability to secure rebounds and find second chance points for us is an absolute luxury. We're hoping that once Kevin Love is back, we'd be one of the most dominant rebounding teams in the league.

Going into the summer, its obvious that the team has a chance to draft a generational talent. Which prospect are you most hoping to land?

JJ: Cade Cunningham is the prize, right? So him. Obviously. However, we love quite a few of those guys. Jalen Suggs and Jalen Green both look like potential all stars and Evan Mobley may be as great as any big man drafted in the last 15-20 years. So while our record is awful, we feel like there's a light at the end of tunnel. Just have to remain patient and build this thing the right way.
