Do You See The "Big" Picture?

  The new 2017-2018 NLL season is upon us!  The new look, younger Orlando Magic embark on yet another year and a second year with general manager L J Maverick in control.   Some around the league and in the Magic Kingdom have noticed a certain air about the wonky general manager.  "He seems a bit more excited this season for some reason", explained head coach Frank Vogel.  "I've known L J since his days in Minnesota, and I have never seen him more giddy."

  The Magic start the new season with fresh faces in the starting rotation with Jonas Valanciunas, Goran Dragic, rookie Lauri Markkanen and Wesley Matthews.  Their bench also has new faces in Jeremy Lamb, Cheick Diallo, Gorgui Dieng and rookies Derrick White and Tony Bradley.

  The fans are most excited to see such an athletic squad on the floor to start the season.  When asked if chemistry would be an issue as it has been in years past, coach Vogel simply replied with a shake of his head.  In all indications, Vogel trusts this squad to come together rather quickly.  Markkanen has been the biggest surprise during the early part of camp and the pre-season.  His comparisons to Dirk Nowitzki and Kristaps Porzingis are well-deserved.  But, if you ask the young man by way of the University of Arizona, he will simply tell you he is nowhere near that caliber of player just yet.

  What is even more exciting is the vibe around this team.  They have been mentioned in recent articles as a team on the rise and one that may be able to compete for a playoff spot even this year.  While all hopes and expectations are kept within team grounds, even the players themselves are a bit on the giddy side for what this young season can bring.  The expectations are not that great for the brass of the club, but a winning season is expected at the very minimum.  They feel this squad will have what it takes to ensure they compete nightly.
