Week 16 Surprises

With Scola getting waived, the club was really starting to regret its trade of Scola and Koufas. Amir was in great form and the view internally was, Amir was the best of the 3 players, but Koufas and Scola together was a win for the club wanting to win now.

Step up Kosta Koufos

Kosta got his chance this week, to not only backup Andre, but also get some quality minutes.  Even after seeing how well Kosta had played this season as a starter for Portland, Kosta was seen just a piece to add depth. Kosta didn’t have the same view, this week he was allocated 14 minutes, solid minutes in a team with 11 players in the rotation, took his chances and opened up the eyes in the organisation.

MPG    14.8
FG% 56%
FT%    78%
RPG    7.8
BPG    0.8
PPG    8.8
PER 23.26

Kosta had the 2nd highest PER in the club, only player higher was Lebron James. His performance couldn’t be ignored, it’s been a common view that Cleveland’s Bench is there weakness, other top teams are deeper and better.  Kosta would like to change that view, he stood out enough that Drummond will have his minutes reduced to give Kosta a bigger role.

Point Guard Dilemma

Last week the team was without the starting point guard of the last 4 weeks Michael Carter-Williams. With this gave the opportunity for Harrison, Jennings or the recently acquired Malcolm Delaney to take over the team.
Training sessions were very competitive, all 3 candidates have huge upsides and would slide well into the position

Brandon Jennings – Is the highest rated of the 3 and has the most experience. He is seen as instant offence off the bench and moving him to the starting unit would probably be counterproductive.

Malcolm Delaney – Was the next highest rated player, and we welcome him to the club. He comes with great potential, but the reason the Cavs picked up Delaney wasn’t for his Point Guard abilities. We see a great option at Shooting Guard, an upgrade on Terry off the bench and could even slot in as a starter if anything happened to Ross.

Andrew Harrison – Harrison won the position, can’t go past his previous record running the offence. The choice work out perfectly as Harrison did a great job against top Point Guards, and kept his undefeated record a starter intact.
