Zach's out
You know by
now that Zach Lavine is out for the season, at least, with a torn ACL. He
probably won’t be ready till the next season and probably not even then. Zach
find a niche as the leader of the second unit and Bucks will have to somehow
replace his production. Zach gets 15 points on 49/42/81 in just 23 minutes of
play and was probably the leading candidate for 6th man of the year
award. Can the team replace that?
One of the
problems that arises with Zach’s injury is the backup PG position. GM Wolf
hoped that Wade Baldwin could manage some minutes by the all star break, but he’s
been underwhelming for now and is playing in D-League. There was a trade for a
third string PG a few weeks ago that brought in Jose Calderon. Jose can play,
is rated ok in the game and could hold the position. He’s a solid three point
shooter, but struggles from the field overall, shooting just 1-19 from that
range so far (what?) .
GM will
look far and wide through the league for another solution obviously. Maybe a
package of Calderon and one or two of the youngster (Prince,Skal, Baldwin and
Davis all pla in D-League, neither could break their respective rotations) can
bring another 6th man candidate. A few fillers were sent out, but it’s
still early in the process.
Bucks just
played a terrible week. Lost to Miami, last in the east, and barely beat
Atlanta, who start Bembry, Beasley and Nicholson. After that they had yet another
meeting with Knicks, played well through three quarters but lost the last by 20
and allowed 48 points. Best player this week? Zach had a PER of 27 but somehow played
only 18 minutes per game as the SG position might be a bit overcrowded with
Pope and Shump. Russ was solid too, 24 points, 53/35, 10 assists, 5 rebounds…
Next week
is even harder on paper. Due to a series of unfortunate events Zach and Thad
will miss this week. Young will rest a wrist sprain; hopefully he can be back
for week 13. The opponents are all from the top. Knicks again, looking to take
back the lead in the East. After that it’s Thunder, Nuggets and Hornets, a specially
terrible matchup. Week 13 might be even harder, with Spurs, Knicks, Hornets,
Mavs. Seems like we’re playing a juggernaut every week.
