The Maker of Thon
Unleash the Maker
While Brandon Ingram has been the rookie getting most of the attention for the Charlotte Hornets it has been the Maker of Thon quietly impressing team team mates and coaching staff. Maker currently has the 2nd highest PER for the Hornets, behind only Porzingis. His PER36 numbers have been comparably to most of the highly touted rookies in the NLL for scoring, rebounding and blocks. He's another one of these 7 footers that hits 3-pointers and is versatile on offense whilst also controlling the paint on defense. It's Thon's hustle game that has quickly made him a fan favorite as you can hear the anticipation in the crowd anytime he takes the floor. We want Thon chants ring out regularly at the Spectrum Center and the crowd goes bananas when he knocks down a triple or crashes the offensive glass to earn those second chance points.
So, when is Charlotte going to unleash the Maker of Thon? Unfortunately, it's not that simple in Charlotte. The Hornet's have seen the value of a unicorn so look to be trying to create a stable of them. Thon's already getting 20 minutes off the bench and has to split minutes with Porizngis, Myles Turner and even Dirk Nowitzki. Even with Dirk receiving some SF minutes, there just isn't enough to go around to give the rookie a biger bump. At this point, it looks like his only opporunity to get more gametime will be if injuries hit the team. Well, that opportunity may be closer than you think. Kristaps hasn't even trained with the team over the last week. Word is that he is in doubt to play in Week 8. So finally, we may see the Charlotte Hornets unleash the Thon to really put him to the test. Will he fizzle out when thrown to the wolves or will he give the league a tiny glimpse of what's in store for the not to distant future?
