Uncle Drew taking over?

Although it is nowhere in the magnitude of the Westbrook-situation in Milwaukee, the Knicks also have a new scoring leader.

Preseason was an indicator for things to come and Kyrie made good on that promise with an excellent week one. With the Knicks running up the score, he averaged over 28 points and 8 assists, both numbers well beyond anything he had ever done before.

Last season was all about Harden. With Kyrie sidelined for the first quarter and Millsap struggling, Harden had the green light from the get go. When Irving returned, he defered to Harden, losing his spot on the All-Star team in the process. He finished the season avering 17ppg, while Harden was an MVP-candidate with 32ppg.

Fast-forward to November and now Irving is commanding the ball, taking four more shots than the Beard. He has attempted 30 three-pointers over the first four games, connecting on 16. Only Steph Curry has more right now.

With no backup point guard available the Knicks' coaching staff has decided to let Harden play the one whenever Irving is off the floor. That boosts both the second unit's effectiveness and Harden's touches, which cannot be ignored with the superstar being in a contract year.

Is Harden iffed? Who knows. Publicly he is saying all the right things.

"Am I gonna average 30 this season? Probably not. But there is no reason we can't both get 25 every night. If we score 120, that leaves plenty for the big fellas."

Well, there is no way that New York will be able to sustain their scoring. They could still improve on their pace though, where they are currently ranked 10th, and they are also not getting to the line enough (19th).

Where they, somewhat surprisingly, excel is on the glass, as they lead the league in rebounding percentage. Also their offensive efficiency is second only to the Boban-fueled Celtics, while their defensive efficiency is third to the seven-footers from Charlotte and the Brow-led Spurs.
