In case you missed it, there’s boxscores back people! The NLL Summer League is up and running and we’re getting a look at all the leagues talent, old and new, in new roles, varied teams and against other legit NLL talent.

Oklahoma has seen a clean bill of health so far, which is great news seeing as they’ve had an injury cloud over at least one player at the beginning of each of the last couple of seasons. MKG is back. Rubio I healthy. Valanciunas has recovered from his ankle that bombed them out of the playoffs, and we’re getting a look at their rookie talent that is set to sign with the team come the opening of free agency in a couple of weeks. Most noticeable is their 2^nd round pick, #31, who has already been labelled as a “steal of the 2^nd round”.

Patrick McCaw has turned heads already. He’s said to be ready to play right now and “knows what he is doing”, and the results are showing in his steady play. Could he actually compete for a rotational spot right off the bat? Just today we saw him drop 18 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and 4 triples on 60% shooting, including 10 points in OT and the game winner! The Thunder haven’t been afraid to put the ball in his hands as a distributor thus far and he’s shown poise and measure beyond his years with his tempo and shot selection seeing him shoot 56% from the field, 44% from deep and only turning the ball over once per game thus far.

Of course, expectations are to be tempered here. We’re talking NLL summer league, free agency hasn’t even hit and he’s been drafted to a playoff team that’s heavy on wing talent. There’s a lot of hurdles to jump yet, but if there’s a start to a career that you’d like to see, this would be it! And all at the ripe old age of 20.

Perhaps this is yet another reason why we won’t be seeing Robert Covington in Oklahoma this coming season?
