Draft drop sees Teague on the move?
The disappointment was clear for everyone
to see. Wes Matthews (representing the club at the draft) could barely hide is
emotions. What had been building for months as a huge night for the grizzlies
was smashed to smithereens with the bottom placed Memphis, having the most
balls in the lottery, were drawn out for pick 4. Simmons, Gone! Ingram, Gone!
The rebuild took a major hit in the space of 5 minutes!
While the displeasure still lingers in
Grizzlies fans, GM Dunne was quick to bounce back. “I was down for about 30
second, then I was straight on the phone, I always had a plan B, I didn’t want
to use it, but it was straight into action. We still have pick 4 in a draft
with some quality top end talent. Not all is lost.
Rumors have already been swirling in the Memphis
media about a possible Jeff Teague trade for a quality big. With no chance of
attaining Simmons or Ingram and Chris Bosh’s future still up in the air a
quality, well established big may be on the wish list. “I won’t comment on
rumors†Dunne stated. “We are in the process of organising workouts for at
least 10 players that are on our radar. Our main focus is the draft at this
stageâ€
Meanwhile, Dunne, who has plenty on his
plate already, is still searching for a head coach. “we would love to get it
down soon and have him involved in the process of the draft, but we wont be
rushing any decisions. This coach is as important a cog as the 4th
selection in the upcoming draft. Both decisions will be made with the upmost diligenceâ€
While Dunne powers on, continuing the
rebuild of the franchise, you cant help but feel that his job would have been
made a whole lot easier with the acquisition of a top 2 draft pick.
