Four more years for the Beard in NY

James Harden agreed to a four-year, $118 million contract renegotiation with the New York on Saturday, upping the 1+1 deal he was under with another two years.

The league's leading scorer will get a $10 million salary-bump for the upcoming season, finally making him the team's highest paid players.

But while it ensures the Knicks have their star locked up for four years now, his $26 million dollar salary also takes away any ideas of reconstructing the roster in free agency this offseason, while also retaining their core of Harden, Irving and Millsap.
All the Knicks can do now is hope to retain Howard and fill out the roster with exceptions and minimum signees. Unless they blow things up completely.

It also means, that Harden, who has spent seven years, his entire career, with the Knicks so far, has a good chance of eventually surpassing Paul Millsap as the team's longest serving player.

Millsap is widely expected to opt out next summer to sign an even more lucrative deal than the 20 million he is already assured of. At that rate the Knicks will certainly pass, nevermind any mutual loyalty between the parties.

Here is Harden's open letter to all Knicks fans:

Dear Knicks Nation:

Saturday was a big day for all of us who love the Knicks.

I feel so honored to be able to extend my basketball career in this great City which I now call home. I can't thank GM dunadan enough for the faith he has shown in me and the incredible support my family and I feel from the organization and our fans.

From the first day I arrived you embraced me as your own. Your support has helped me grow so much as a player and as a man - from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!

I can assure you our Team will work hard together, grow together, build together, compete together, and pursue our ultimate goal - another Championship for the Big Apple- together!

There will be challenges along the way but we will continue to fight. Everyone in the organization is locked in on the same goal.

We are not a "super-team", but just a group of guys that want to work hard to be the very best. And our work begins immediately.

We look forward to taking this incredible journey with all of you!

With much love and great respect,
