Gasol Down!

The Washington Wizards have been pretty much healthy through out the first quarter of the season. But things are getting serious. Just when the Wizards were on a hot streak of winning five of their last six games, Carmelo Anthony gets injured with knee problems for week twelve, and misses five games. He may be back next week, but the Wizards just received the worst news they could have ever imagined. Marc Gasol injured his foot and is now out for the season. The man in the middle, their defensive anchor, its really a huge blow to the team. The Wizards now have a huge hole at center after dealing JJ Hickson to the Knicks, who could have been ready to jump in and keep the Wizards afloat. But now who do they have, Spencer Hawes? Nick Collison? Even rumors of Carmelo Anthony being the man in the middle have surfaced, but very unrealistic. The Wizards find themselves in a very bad position. They traded their youth and depth to get better players, and now those players are missing games and the season is looking pretty grim. They have no real big man who can rebound and defend the paint anymore. All their big men are mid to long range shooters who are more offensive than defensive.
The Future?

So the big question is what do the Wizards do now? One GM has already contacted Darko telling him to blow it up and start over. But Darko knows how hard it can be to obtain guys like Marc Gasol and Carmelo Anthony, and doesnt really want to let those guys go, even if they are injured. Also getting solid guys out of the draft is just random luck, and could add another two to five years before they become good. But the injury to Marc Gasol is huge, so huge it has made GM Darko think about where his team is going and what he should do in the future with his team. A lot was riding on the shoulders of guys like Marc Gasol and Carmelo Anthony. "Honestly i dont know what to do, and which direction to go. I know in the past ive made deals with players who were injured, and i dont want to trade Marc Gasol just because he is injured. I really like him a lot as a player, and he solidifies the center position for this team. Its just very unfortunate that he had to get injured. All i can do is take this one day at a time and try to make smart decision, and not decisions based on contract length or injury status." said GM Darko. What the future holds for the Wizards is a mystery, but without their 2016 1st round pick, there in no position to tank. All they can do is keep fighting.
