Leavin' on a Jet plane

Jason Terry, or “Jet”, as the Phoenix fans affectionately call him, has been an integral part of the Suns roster since the 2013 season.  The Suns traded Ersan Ilyasova to the Orlando Magic to get Terry in Orange and Purple.  JT has the versatility to play either point guard or shooting guard when necessary, but he is a lethal distance shooter, especially when coming off the off ball screen, or when he’s given a set shot on the drive and kick out.  Jet may be getting long in the tooth, as he is the oldest player on the Suns current roster, with only 2 other Suns within 9 years of his age of 38.

Jason Terry came out of the University of Arizona and started his NLL career with the Atlanta Hawks way back in 2002.  In 2006, he averaged almost 33 points per game, but he has never come within 10 points per game in any other year.  He’s averaged almost 18 points a game over his career, but last year he only averaged about 6 and a half.

Even though his role has drastically reduced, the rumor is that Jet will likely resign with the Suns this offseason.  He believes that the Suns and GM Pennywise are building something special and that they are only a piece or two (and some lucky breaks) away from contenting for an NLL title.  It’s been circulating that he would be willing to take a nice sized pay cut (the speculation is that he will return to Phoenix on a 1 year, $1.5 million dollar contract) to stay in the desert.

Jet’s willingness to reduce his salary will help the Suns in free agency this year.  Already Jet and J-Smoove are taking large pay cuts to help out the cap.  The extra money could give the Suns the cap flexibility to go after a big name, big money contract that could be the missing piece!
