Player Intros - Part Two
Hey Boston sports fans, basketball fans from around the world! Thanks for tuning back in for part two of the introductory press conference for Al Jefferson and Mario Chalmers!
Jmac, how do you envision the line up at this stage?
[Jmac] We have a reputation for going
hard in free agency and that will likely be the same again this upcoming
season. While we do not have the cap space to sign players to deals the size of
which we saw last season with Lance and Pau, we will most certainly be looking
to add as much talent as we can through the process. We envision Kevin, Al and
and Nikola as the core going forward, players that we certainly want to retain
and build around. We will evaluate other players as the season progresses to
judge whether or not they are viewed as core players. We are very much a team
that likes to acquire talent and value and work out the rest later. Pau Gasol
could also be part of the core depending on his views about upcoming free
agency.

Jmac,
will Kevin Durant ever get back to where he was a year ago?
[Jmac] This press conference is about Al and Mario, not Kevin. Kevin is
hungrier than ever and we truly believe he will be back to his durable best
this upcoming season. He is progressing as he should be and is working hard. Next
question!
Al,
Mario… What was it like playing against the Celtics last season?
[Al] Man, it was tough. I think I caught ‘em during that 30-something game win
streak. They were blowing teams out. I played on Pau Gasol almost all game. He’s
so long and skilled, was really tough. Him and Vuc just killed the glass and it
was really tough to establish position. They were just on a roll and crushing
teams. I remember noticing how great their chemistry and ball movement was. They were always spaced. And they had a lot of
different ways they could beat you. Obviously they were a team that focused on
offense, but they were efficient from everywhere on the floor and got to the
line. I’m excited to be on the other side now, to be a part of a team like
that.

[Mario] They just had weapons. And moved the ball. There defense wasn’t their
strength but they had length and man they could score. I remember having to
play against Delly off the bench, and that was seriously tough. He’s a true
competitor and plays like a warrior on the court. Now, I get to battle with him
in the gym every day. It’s a great test and I’m really happy to be a Celtic!
