Isaiah High AF on the Sidelines

Congratulations, you been click-baited. Well kind of. Welcome to Rockets News!

The Return of Isaiah

Isaiah Thomas has been making solid progress in his rehab. The next step in his recovery will be going through 5-on-5 drills. He’s on track to get back to court by January. To help with the recovery, JR Smith has been hooking him up with the good stuff for pain management as shown below:

Meanwhile in the NBA, LeBron James has been playing a lot of NBA2k18 to get ready for Isaiah. He claims he’s been testing different lineups with Isaiah to see how the Cavs will look when Thomas comes back.

Whiteside for MVP

Hassan Whiteside got his first POTW award in week 3. I said at the beginning of the season that he was going to be a 20/20 guy.  Instead, he is averaging 29 PTS, 15 REB, 2.4 STL, and 1.5 BLK this season. It wasn’t enough to win us games for the first two weeks, but the team as a whole adapted to the new NLL meta and really got it going weeks 3 and 4. And now Whiteside is getting some recognition.

Injuries

We started off a bit slow without Isaiah. We climbed to just one game away from 0.500 without Whiteside & Chandler.  Now we will be without Hardaway Jr for another 3 weeks. Al Jefferson and Dion Waiters has been doing a lot of the heavy lifting in their absence, and I’d say that we have been pretty lucky so far. But let’s keep this going guys.

Labissiere Trade Vetoed

You might of heard the rumors. It’s true. Houston almost traded its 2018 draft pick for Skal Labissiere. I put a ton of value on post scoring bigs. It’s a lost art. Players don't learn post scoring skills for 4 years in college anymore. They're all one and done. Teams have to hire old throw back players like Al Jefferson, Zach Randolph, and Kevin Garnett to teach these skills to younger players. Ever since last year I wanted a young post scoring big to fill the shoes of Al Jefferson when he retires. And perhaps I was being a bit premature about it because Al probably has 3–4 years left in him.

Below were the young bloods I was looking at in my search:
  • Atlanta – Domantas Sabonis – Age 21 – 79 rating
  • Milwaukee – Skal Labissiere – Age 21 – 78 rating
  • LA Clippers – John Collins – Age 20 – 76 rating
  • Sacramento – Jahlil Okafor – Age 21 – 74 rating
  • Charlotte – Thon Maker – Age 20 – 74 rating
  • Dallas – Bam Adebayo – Age 20 – 72 rating
  • Detroit – Deyonta Davis – Age 20 – 71 rating

I saw Skal available on the trade market for an SG. So I initially offered Dion Waiters + a 2nd round pick, but Milwaukee wanted a first rounder. I was cool with this, because if I were to re-draft 2016, I would have selected Skal at pick 12. And in my eyes, I viewed the Houston pick as a pick 15 – 20. But at the time, Houston was at the bottom of the standings and it was looking like a top 10 pick. It’s been a week now, and I guess I’m kind of glad that the trade didn’t go through. All the post scoring moves that Skal should of learned from Zach Randolph this year in the NBA has been going to Willie Cauley-Stein instead. And with recent updates, Skal has been downgraded to a 75.
