So long Jimmy

The Philadelphia 76ers send Darren Collison to the Sacramento Kings....

The Sacramento Kings send James Johnson to the Philadelphia 76ers.

It's been less then 24 hours since the Kings decided to part ways with cult favourite James Johnson and the overall taste left in our mouths is bitter sweet...

Last season James played 24 games for the Kings after coming over from Minnesota and averaged 10 PPG and 4.3 RPG with shooting splits of 50/42/81 in just under 20 minutes a game. He was the perfect fit coming off the bench and also saw some time in the starting line up due to his versatility on both ends of the floor, hustle and basketball IQ. He was pivotal in the second round against Western powerhouse and rival OKC and helped the Kings find their way into the Western conference finals. James was geared to have a big year with an increased role but with the move for Okafor during the offseason and his recent success in the starting line up, it was obvious this was going to impact his playing time and position within the roster. It wasn't a secret that the Kings planned to bring in legitimate back court depth and to some they failed to do so other then picking up some solid rotation players, trade rumours swirled around with the prospect of bringing in a starting guard leaving James Johnson as the odd man out.

"My stay was brief but we had a great run last year and I'm really appreciative of the opportunity the club gave me, the guys in the locker room will be my brothers for ever and you never lose that. In the end it's a business and I saw the writing on the wall... I'm excited about what is about to come and would like to thank all the fans because they've been awesome to me. I'll always bleed purple for the Kings"- James Johnson

Now comes the sweet aftertaste as we welcome veteran point guard in Darren Collison to help solidify the starting line up and bring veteran leadership to the franchise. With averages last year of 8.5 PPG, 4.2 APG and 1.9 RPG in 18.5 minutes a game Darren projects to really make a difference with a significantly increased role as he is going to be the guy with the ball in his hands to start and end the game on a nightly basis.
