Nigel Williams-Goss

Nigel Wiliams-Goss was the 53rd pick of the NLL draft.  After watching much of the NCAA Tournament, Spudspace was enamored with the point guard of the Gonzaga Bull Dogs.  Standing 6’3” and 190 lbs with an impressive 6’7” wingspan, this guy has what it takes to make it in the league.  There are many doubters to him because of his lack of explosion, but he is the type of player that will grind and end up making it.

Strengths:

He is a great leader, helping the Bulldogs to 3 years of success in college.  He’s a great shotmaker, figuring out crafty ways to get the ball in the hoop.  He’s one of the best shooters in the draft shooting 90% from the free throw line, and 37% from the 3-point line.  He has the ability to be a good defender, as he is aggressive and has a big wingspan.

Weaknesses:

He’s got below average speed for an NBA point guard.  He may have problems staying in front of some guys.  He doesn’t have the quick first step that will get him past defenders.  He’s a bit older, already 22 years old, so may have developed as much as he is going to.

Where does he fit in on this team you ask?  Well, the currently Williams-Goss is the only point guard the team has the rights to.  Jeff Teague, Deron Williams, and Ron Baker all are free agents.  While management hopes to retain all 3 of these guys, there’s a chance 1,2, or even 3 of them walk.  NWG may have a chance to get some playing time right away if he impresses in the summer leagues.  He has the maturity already and confidence of management to make a contribution.

In other Timberwolves news, the team is ready to shut it down for the summer.  After a lot of trades this season, it might be time for Spudspace to get some rest and spend more time with his family.  Keeping a close eye on NBA free agency this summer is all the work he will do.  Until next season folks!
