Time to Rise...Again...?

Sunday, 23rd April 2017: After 14 NLL seasons Dwyane Wade has already cemented himself as a future Hall of Famer, after all he sits as the NLL’s 8th All-time leading scorer and 4th all-time in steals.  By most accounts he has had a great NLL career, averaging 22.8 points per game at 0.50fg’s over 905 games played.  He has made 10 All-Star game appearances and has countless All-NLL team awards.  He has also often ventured into the NLL playoffs, 9 times in fact, (including this season) - ranking 11th in scoring, 9th in playoff steals.  Wade has played a total of 84 playoff games, most of them with New Jersey during his most successful years in the league.

No Ring: Unfortunately for Wade however through all this success he has never won a ring.  The closest coming in the 2005/6 season where his Nets lost in 7 games in the Conference Finals to the eventual Champion 76ers.  That team coming from the 5th seed to beat the 4th seed and 1st seeds in 7 game series.  Wade still remains the playoff leader in points for the Nets who really haven’t tasted much success since he left.  For the record that 2006 Nets team included Jason Kidd.

High Hopes: Coming into this post season Wade has high hopes but remains grounded in his expectations.  “I feel like we have a chance but what is important for me to do is to adapt to my matchups and help my team mates succeed.”  After 14 NLL seasons, DWade has seen it all on the court and he recognises how importance his leadership and experience can be for a relatively young Lakers group.  “Right now I don’t feel as though I have to be the main guy anymore, we have Nikola, (Vucevic), George, (Hill) and Malcolm, (Brogdon) all playing really well.  My main focus is to get these guys going.”

Keys: When asked about potential keys to the series, Wade remained fairly tight lipped however did concede that staying consistent would be most important.  “Obviously OKC have a strong group and a lot has been written about how deep their team is, so it will be key for us to continually adapt and match them for 48 minutes.”  With 4 NLL Titles, Manu Ginobili will enter his 12th playoff campaign alongside leading 6th man of the Year candidate Marreese Speights and the newly acquired Jordan Crawford.  “With Manu, Mo, Brogdon and Jordan I think we got a great bench group and we should be able to keep up,” said Wade.

Can the two NLL greats, Wade and Ginobili combine to rise one more time?

Stay tuned for more as your Los Angeles Lakers enter their 7th straight post season under gm greenmig commencing Monday 24th April, 2017!
