Slam Dunk –
All star slam dunk competition is back! Zach Lavine, fresh off the ACL surgery
decided his new knee out. “Fuck it, I live for moments like this. Carpe diemâ€,
were his exact words when he was overheard arguing with his doctors. GM Wolf
just shrugged; the reality was Zach was almost traded twice last week. Rumors
are there’s another very strong option on the table and we might be looking at
his last days as a Buck. The competition wasn’t particular stellar. Former
Bucks first round pick Rondae Hollis Jefferson, dunks make quite a big part of
his scoring, but mostly because he really can’t shoot, Malik Beasley, a big
unknown in the dunk competition, and Marquiss Chriss, trying to make us
believers in big man power dunks. Zach won, maybe a bit harder than expected. “I
can destroy these guys on bum knee, no worries“, was his commentary as he took
the Slam Dunk cup to the locker room.
All star
game – Bucks have 3 all stars this year. Russell Westbrook is a mainstay for
the game, participating for 8th time (ok, wild guess, but let’s go
with that. Then there are two guys that made the first appearance there; well
first of many. Karl Anthony Towns should be a lock; he’s featured in MVP watch
a lot and gets some mentions for POW every other week. Giannis Antetokuonmpo was
a big surprise. He’s having an up and down season, looks like a superstar one
game and then next game he can’t hit a barn and turns it over. They’ll probably
play limited minutes, but will hopefully dominate the game from the bench.
Injuries –
Bucks survived last two, three weeks with injuries piling. First Zach went down
with ACL tear. Then it looked like every other game someone got hurt. Iman
Shumpert had a knee injury, but returned quickly. Aaron Gordon had a bone
bruise or an ankle sprain, but that souldn’t keep him from the all star dunk
event, so he got motivated for a quick return. Thad Young is still nursing his
sprained wrist. Slowly things should return to normal. Well, normal without
Zach.
Trades –
Bucks were really proactive and spent most of the year looking to upgrade bench
so that it now features the likes of Shumpert and Young. It paid off with an
injury to Lavine. Now it looks like Galloway might get waived and that’s
another situation the front office would like to avoid. SO far there’s been no
luck. Obviously no one wants Indiana’s pick or any of the youngsters thrown
around; Davis, Skal and Prince have no value around the league. The search will
continue in next couple days, hopefully a solid backup combo guard will come to
Milwaukee. Or someone will have to learn to play PG very quickly.
