GM Dunne Apologises
Today Grizzlies GM Jesse Dunne called a
unexpected press conference at the teams training facility a delivered the
following statement.
“Thank you for joining me today. I will now
deliver a message on behalf of my self and the organisation, however I will be
taking no questions at this time, as all I have to say will be covered off.
This past week, Myself, Coach Fizdale and
the entire team at Memphis made a mistake. Our lineup was set incorrectly,
while not incorrectly to the official rules, it was incorrect in the sense of
the great sportsmanship that is conducted week in week out in this great
league. While we have been not openly accused of “gaming†there has been some
rumblings that we would like to knock on the head immediately.
While we made an error in not having a 3rd
big in our Centre/Power Forward rotation. With Big Papa out and the new arrival
of Monitjunes who we wanted to expose to the NLL, we overlooked the extra
rotation and therefore had both of them playing 40 minutes per game and insane minutes
in the over time loss. We had no intention of trying to work out a way around
the system; it was merely an oversight from all involved.
As stated above, we have been in contact
with the league commission and they have stated that they understand we are
trying to play youth and explore other options for the future and that they
believe we were in no way trying to “Cheatâ€. We openly admitted to our error
and were ready to accept any punishment that comes our way. We have also
assured the league and I am here to assure everyone involved in the NLL that it
wont happen again. We look to get back on track this week with some big games
and hopefully the return of Big Papa can get the Memphis fans excited once
again. Thank you for your time today.
