Injury Updates and Other News
Injuries have plagued the team all season, and it continues
in the coming weeks. While almost all
teams deal with injuries, it has hurt the Timberwolves a lot with not having
any consistency week to week. This week,
Avery Bradley, and Jeremy Lin are out again, putting pressure on the team with
only one real shooting guard healthy.
When the team traded for Avery Bradley, we knew about his
injury history, but were hoping he would be better than Bradley Beal has been
for the last couple of seasons. Now it
looks like we made the wrong choice as far as health is concerned. “Avery is a big part of what we do on both
ends of the floor.†Said head coach Tom Thibodeau. “He is the best perimeter defender in the
league, and he spreads the court and scores well without plays even drawn up
for him. It’s no wonder we struggled
last week on both ends of the court.â€
Jeremy Lin continues to be injured, and this is a big reason
why we made the trade last week.
Bringing in Wes Matthews and Jordan Clarkson makes the injuries to Avery
and Jeremy not as big of a deal. We can
continue to play a similar style of play.
Teams have come inquiring about the status of Lin, and it seems no
trades will be had right now. Even
though he will have to be resigned in the offseason, he is still a starting
caliber point guard in the league. As
soon as he gets healthy, he will work his way back into the rotation and prove
his value.
Metta World Peace just came back from his DNPs to help the
team this week and step into the starting lineup. The hope is that this allows Wes to come off
the bench and bolster the 2nd unit like he did 2 weeks ago. Artest knows
he’s not there to take a ton of shots.
He’s there to play smart defense, and take open 3’s. Hopefully we can weather the storm until the
team gets healthy again.
In other news, the team was in negotiations to bring in a
big time frontcourt player this week, but injuries have derailed the
talks. “With all our injuries this
season, we just can’t knowingly trade for a guy that is going to be out for any
extended period of time.†said GM
Spudspace of negotiations. With the
trade deadline coming faster than anyone is realizing, the team may be done
with moves this year. The goal of the
team is to be in the top 4 in the West at the end of the year, hopefully we can
keep that up.
