Timberwolves Week 3 Preview

Another week, still no Paul George.  The team is hoping to have him back next week, but the front office isn't helping the coach on the court.  After Paul went out, Trevor Ariza stepped in and filled in well, helping the Wolves achieve a 2-2 record even without their star player.  How does the front office reward this?  Well they shipped him down to the Big Easy for injured swingman T.J. Warren.  Most fans weren't too happy about this.  Having a guy like Trevor coming off your bench is a luxury most teams just don't have.  To give this up for a younger player who's defense has been suspect at best?  You just don't do that.  GM Spudspace said this: "I appreciate Trevor being here, but we got a great offer for a young kid that is a future star in the league.  I have to think about now and the future, that's my job."

As far as on the court play, with wins over Sacramento and Utah, the Wolves continue to surprise.  Sadly they couldn't beat the depleted Spurs (who can?), or the champion Lakers, but that's ok, Minnesota is still sitting pretty at 2nd in the West.

This week is more of the same for the starting lineup except James Johnson will step up into the starting SF spot.  This means the team is putting a lot of trust in newly acquired Ron Artest to man the backup 3 spot.  Hopefully this lineup doesn't let down and we can just keep our heads above water until Paul George comes back.  Last week we thought we'd go 1-3, and we ended up at 2-2, so already we are doing better than expected.  Another 2-2 week would be awesome!

First up is the Oklahoma City Thunder.  These guys have a great team and they have minimal injuries this week with only Richardson and Jokic out.  They are one of the better teams in the league and will look to give us fits.  The only way this can turn our way is if every player plays to their maximum.  We've seen that every game a different guy steps up, but for the Thunder, we need everyone.  They have a way better bench than the Wolves do, so we will likely lose that battle, and are better at almost every position with George out.  Not a chance we win this game.  Prediciton:  Thunder win big

The next game of the week is the Grizzlies.  These guys have had some highs and lows already, but their roster is a bit depleted without Bosh.  They sold Teague off to the highest bidder with hopes of draft picks saving them.  They have been shopping Wes Matthews, but seem to be asking a high price that nobody is willing to pay yet.  His high salary might be a deterrent for some teams.  This is a game that the Wolves should hope to win.  Memphis did sneak up and beat Denver though, so you can't count them out.  Prediction:  Wolves win

After this we have the Raptors, who finally got their backcourt healthy, just to lose ZBo for the week due to family issues.  Luckily they signed 3-point gunner Mirza and he can put up points in bunches. These guys aren't gonna blow anybody away, but they can remain competitive.  Hopefully we can take this team without George.  Prediction:  Wolves win

Washington is an interesting team, they started out hot and have cooled off after having to play the Sixers multiple times last week.  They are missing some bench players, but are relatively healthy.  They have superstar Carmelo Anthony who is playing at an elite level right now.  Good luck to whoever is guarding him.  This team can take us down this week with 3 guys injured on our team.  The Wizards are looking to have a bright season and this will be a good win for them.  Prediction:  Wizards win

So we are hoping for a 2-2 week with our superstar out, that would be a great accomplishment.  Hopefully it happens and we can survive another week.  Good luck to everyone, and Go Wolves!
