The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

The Good, the Bad and the downright ugly…

The anatomy of a franchise

Coming into 2015/16 it marks GM Andrew 3rd full season at the helm of the Los Angeles Clippers and whilst it hasn’t always been smooth sailing we are making strides into the future that will (fingers crossed) bring the team back to playoff glory.

Part of any successful rebuild are the frowned upon blow up trades, usually received with mixed reviews. Some for the moves, some against. Can’t please everyone right

Having pulled the pin 2 full seasons ago, I thought it may be fun to look back in time at some of the trades that have gone down that will re-write LA Clipper history in either a good way or a bad one?

Trade Number #1.

The road to suckiness deal

This is where it all started the dreaded rebuild, after a 1st round playoff exit the season prior it was recognized that LA were becoming treadmill team, not good enough to win anything yet not bad enough to land a prized recruit in the draft.

Los Angeles Clippers trades

David Lee, Mike Conley

Los Angeles Clippers receives

Harrison Barnes, Raymond Felton, Brandon Bass, Dario Saric

The general consensus at the time was probably considered a better deal for Minnesota at the time, interesting to note Harrison Barnes and Dario Saric never had the opportunity to don a clippers jersey as they were flipped soon after.

Trade number #2.

The black falcon free’d deal…

As mentioned above Harrison Barnes never played a game in a clipper uniform, and this is why. Full tilt at rebuilding LA threw all current assets into the rebuild diversifying into picks and young players.

Los Angeles Clippers trades

Harrison Barnes

Los Angeles Clippers receives

Clint Capela, Reggie Bullock, #10 draft pick (Devin Booker)

General consensus was deemed it to be a good trade for both, even though Harrison had 2k qualities LAC avoided having to fork a max deal for him straight away.

Trade number #3.

The end of an era deal…

Oh Monta where out thou, the day a fan favorite bit the dust and was sent packing from the bright lights of Hollywood.

Los Angeles Clippers trades

Monta Ellis

Los Angeles Clippers receives

Ben Gordon, Shabazz Muhammad, Rodney Hood #18 and #48 draft picks 2015

Monta Ellis remains a nightmare proposition in the NLL for opposing guards and will likely remain so until the day he retires, Rodney Hood remains the best piece in this deal for LAC and is still their starting SF. Interesting to note Shabazz Muhammad was thought to be the main acquisition in this one.

Trade number #4.

The Dear god, what have I done deal!?!!!!!

Los Angeles Clippers trades

LA Clippers 2016 1st, LA Clippers 2018 1st

Los Angeles Clippers receives

Alec Burks, Phoenix Suns 2016 1st

Call this one like it is, BAAAAAD and for a few reasons, the Clippers 2016 pick jumped to number #2 and netted Charlotte Brandon Ingram, to add salt into the wounds in an attempt to get better the Phoenix lottery pick was sent to the Celtics for Kendall freaking Marshall.

Salt into the wound, Burks sat out most of the 2015/16 season and likely won’t be seen till Feb 2017 this season. While Brandon Ingram is lighting up the scoreboard

Trade number #5.

The Ooops I did it again deal!!!!

Los Angeles Clippers trades

LA Clippers #11 pick 2015 draft

Los Angeles Clippers receives

Charlotte Hornets #18 pick 2015 draft, 20gm

The Nightmare continues, lesson to self always draft the BPA and don’t trade back for need, this deal sent Myles Turner to Charlotte for Jerian Grant and some GM points FAAAAIIIIILLLLL!!

Trade number #6.

The chilled veins deal…

Los Angeles Clippers trades

Justice Winslow, Dario Saric

Los Angeles Clippers receives

DAngelo Russell

Trading back for need is always a risky more, trading forward for talent is a much better move and here we were looking for our franchise talent PG. DAngelo was coveted for months leading out from the 2015 NLL draft and when presented the opportunity to land him jumped..

Trade number #7.

The Gambler deal…

Taking risks is a part of life specifically if you want to reap the rewards after keeping a very close eye on a D League signing and former highly touted prospect Hassan Whiteside. LAC made the offer that was thought at the time to be a terrible deal with Tony Snell being the greater prospect..

Los Angeles Clippers trades

Tony Snell

Los Angeles Clippers receives

Hassan Whiteside, 6gm Points

Trade number #8.

The Bombshell deal...

Facing a possible FA disaster, LAC made the heart wrenching decision to jettison their franchise caliber C in Hassan Whiteside who was rumored strongly to leave his NBA team.

Los Angeles Clippers trades

Hassan Whiteside

Los Angeles Clippers receives

Festus Ezeli, Houston 1st 2016 (#18 Ante Zizic), Portland 2017 1st

Judging this one right now you'd say TKO victory for Houston Rockets with Hassan currently a top50 player and Festus a likely waiver wire candidate.
