Eye's Forward

By Andrew on August 18, 2016

While it may be the off season, the wheels will never stop moving completely in the city of angels, the LA Clippers front office may be easing back on trade talks over the last few weeks however we will never completely shut down operations in an attempt to improve a young roster up and coming roster and with some luck the eventual resurgence of a once proud organization.

“While improvement is sort after we aren’t and won’t be unrealistic in our expectations for the upcoming season 2016/17 campaign”

It may very well be another lean season for the W column. With that said a definite goal will be to eclipse the extremely poor 25 win mark of the disappointing 2015/16 season.

Iva Biggen – Last season’s disappointment aside, what are the goals moving into 2016/17 season.

GM Andrew – “Get better across the board. We have made a few minor changes already and expect to add one possibly two more through the free agency process.

We believe strongly that we have the nucleus of our core already and will be looking to simply complement those guys.”

Iva Biggen – with two restricted free agents expected to test the market will you bring both back for next season?

Our number 1 priority will be ensuring the return of Festus Ezeli in addition to unheralded point guard Briante Weber. Both are likely to test the market but we can assure everyone we will have the resources to match any offer made.”

Iva Biggen – are playoffs on the horizon for this team any time soon?

GM Andrew – [Crowd Laughs] “let’s be realistic eh! We are under no illusions regarding our season outlook. It’s looking likely we will end up at the tail end of the ladder once again let’s not kid ourselves here.

And that’s no disrespect to the players we currently have coming back but recognizing the talent pool across the NLL.

As the young guys improve our outlook will improve along with it”

Iva Biggen – Any trades being discussed at the moment?

GM Andrew – “We are / were in discussion with a few teams but nothing has been agreed upon. It’s conceivable that we see out the off-season and re-assess the roster around free agency, other than that the moves completed prior to the 2016 NLL draft Including a couple of moves that will be finalized once trading re-opens”

Iva Biggen – how are your feelings about the state of the roster at the moment

GM Andrew – “Exciting times ahead for the future of this team, we love the direction we are headed and despite the small step backwards in 2015/16 season we can definitely see some light at the end of the tunnel.”

Iva Biggen – A lot was made earlier regarding a whopping six first round draft picks the Clippers own heading towards the 2017 NBA draft.

GM Andrew – “Im extremely happy with what Ive accumulated, and should greatly help me add some quality in the future”

Iva Biggen – Obviously you can’t keep all draft picks, right?

GM Andrew – “Well to be honest I have an extremely long time to consider that I can say that 2016/17 will be approached a little differently to the previous two seasons, so to answer your question you will un-likely see LA trading away draft picks

The last two seasons we have probably been guilty of trading too much and throwing away assets to rectify team positional need rather than trust the rebuilding process and in retrospect that has hurt considerably more than helped.”

As the roster takes shape the need to make moves will dissipate naturally and I believe that will start with 2016/17 season

Iva Biggen – would you say there has been regretful decisions made in the past

GM Andrew – “Yeah of course there has, as much as it pains to admit trading in a lot of cases has a winner and loser sometimes it just isn’t clear right away. Over the past three NLL seasons we have made some good trades and retrospectively some bad trades. Right now we need to re-asses our position and make moves that complement the team’s outlook, not hurt it”

Iva Biggen – what would you says is the team’s biggest need right now?

GM Andrew – “depth at Power forward and Centre would be the biggest concern at the present time, Festus and Nikola Havnt exactly enjoyed injury free careers. If they can remain injury free for the coming season we should be ok.

If they miss any time, we are left with only Cody and Clint to handle the load which isn’t going to be a feasible option”
