Acquired with pick number #54 (NBA Jazz No#52 pick)

Name – Joel “Boy oh Boy” Bolomboy

Clippers Jersey Number -

Draft day fallers, draft day risers was the theme for the 2016 NLL draft leading up to the NLL occasion the #54 pick was always going to be a complete mystery. The plan to get a stash player or trade for GM and walk away smiling with our two earlier picks.

Never did we think a talent like Joel Bolomboy would still be on the boards, initially assuming the Weber state prospect would go in the 30 – 40 region.

Some draft analysis having him as a late 1st round prospect, particularly after a spectacular draft combine showing, of the 61 players taking part, Joel was a standout

·        2nd Max Vertical (40.5”)

·        2nd Standing Vertical (37.5)

·        6th ¾ Court Sprint

·        1st Lane Agility

·        7th Shuttle Run

·        1st Bench Press

Joel also measured the 2nd largest hands in the draft, only behind Utah’s Jakob Poeltl. Combine all that with a 6’9 height 235lb frame and a 7’2 wingspan and Joel is a supreme run and jump athlete.

All that however doesn’t matter if he can’t shoot right?

During his senior season at Weber state he managed to average a very respectable

·        17.1 points

·        12.6 boards

·        1.2 blocks

·        1.1 assists

Shooting an average of two three point shots per game Joel averaged 36% from deep and 57% from the field overall

Joel holds the all-time rebounding record in the big sky conference while sitting as the 6th greatest overall rebounder in NCAA history

All this for a guy that was born in the Ukraine, and only started basketball at the age of 13.

ESPN draft analyst Jay Bilas liked the Jazz selection of Bolomboy, who Bilas considers "one of the two or three best rebounders in the country."

"You don't often see a guy with that size that's that agile," Bilas said Thursday night. "He has a 40-inch vertical leap, he can make a face up shot, and the thing scouts really like about him is he can rebound! — He can get you extra possessions."

In 2006 the Utah Jazz selected with the 47th overall pick a gentleman by the name of Paul Millsap who was thought of as an offensive limited athletic rebounder that played in a weak conference...

One never knows……………..
