Cavs Draft Day

It was all quiet in Cleveland, only having 1 pick and not looking to trade to get into the draft. With the 57th pick in the draft, we would like to welcome Daniel Hamilton of the University of Connecticut.

Hamilton is a 20-year-old sophomore that measures in at a lean 6'7" and 195 pounds
Hamilton played mostly on the wing and as a swing forward during his two years at UCONN and was one of only two Division I players in the country (also LSU’s Ben Simmons) with 450 points, 300 rebounds, and 150 assists--posted a triple double, 11 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assits, December 23 against CCSU.

Hamilton led the Huskies in rebounding (8.9) and assists (4.7) and was second in scoring (12.5). He had three double-doubles in the conference tournament, where he played his best basketball, averaging 21.0 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists to win Most Outstanding Player. Hamilton had 17 points and 10 rebounds in UConn's victory over Colorado in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, then 11 points, eight rebounds in the season-ending loss to Kansas on March 15.

What do we like about Daniel Hamilton?" Thunder GM PK told reporters in Cleveland, "versatility, size for the position. Needs some development, but one of the things we take a lot of pride in is continuing to work with guys. We want to be a place where people get better. We want to be a place where players improve, and I think Daniel has an opportunity to do that. He's got size and skill, I just think he needs some more time."

For Hamilton, 6 feet 7, that "more time" could have come in the form of one more year at UConn, where he played two seasons, winning the American Athletic Conference rookie of the year award as a freshman and led the Huskies to the conference tournament championship as a sophomore. Last season, he was one of two players, along with Ben Simmons of LSU, the No.1 pick in the draft, to get at least 450 points, 300 rebounds and 150 assists, so NBA evaluators knew the upside is there.

Hamilton will need to add more muscle and sharpen his shooting to play in the NBA. It's also possible Hamilton could play overseas while Cleveland retains his rights.
