BOSTON ADVANCES TO ECF!
Three seasons ago, the most the Celtics had
achieved was to be first round fodder in the playoffs and to be promptly booted
out. This coincided with Kobe doing his achilles tendon and management
disbanding and the house being cleaned. The next two seasons would see
fantastic regular seasons evaporate in a puff of smoke, losing two first round
match ups in heartbreaking fashion.
Fast forward 12 months, and the Celtics fans don’t want you to pinch them. If
this is a dream, they don’t want to wake up. Like ever. Don’t even come in the
room. For a franchise starved of any success for their whole NLL history,
Celtics fans have more than paid their dues.
Say it again… Boston fans, the best fans in the entire NLL… The Boston Celtics
just advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals… Eastern Conference Finals…
Eastern Conference Finals… Eastern Conference Finals… THE EASTERN CONFERENCE
FINALS!
Horford saves a loose ball while Durant looks on
History won’t remember who made the ECF in 2016, they only remember the
champions. While that is still the goal, this is an epic achievement for the
Celtics. Against the Cavaliers, in a see-sawing, dogfight or a series, they
were down 2-1. The Celtics were then able to reel off three thrilling victories
in a row to punch their ticket to the Eastern Conference Finals to play the
best in the NLL; the Philadelphia 76ers.
For a team that is looked at as ‘Kevin Durant’ and the other good players, Al
Horford did a pretty good job of being arguably the teams most important player
against the Cavaliers. Parker and James took turns of being dominant, and
Durant was his all-around best. But Horford, he was the most impactful player
of the series, hands down. His stat line might be more understated than a
Durant or a James, but for sheer impact, efficiency and importance, it was
Horford all the way.
20 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1 block a game over six
games, on 61/100/96 shooting… WHAAAAAAAAAT?!?! Have you ever seen a better
series from a big man? And against Serge Ibaka and Andre Drummond. And
statistics aside, he had some huge momentum building plays, dunks, steals and
clutch baskets. The exclamation point was Horford following his own three and
dunking the rebound over two Cavs players.
‘I just wanted to win so bad, man, I didn’t want to leave the court with anything
left’, Horford exclaimed, moments after tonight’s game 6 win.
For at least a series, Horf was 'da real MVP'
‘It’s been so great, this season. We’ve been very lucky with continuity of the
starting five and we just adore playing with each other. The team culture is
fantastic. The reserves had some big moments, Chief had a few games scoring
double digits. Ariza was great on LeBron. KD was as KD is; the best player on
the planet. We didn’t want it to end, here, the journey. We ain’t done, yet.’
Kobe and the Toronto Raptors… Check. LeBron and the Cleveland Cavaliers… Check.
Lillard, Kawhi and the 76ers…. Up next.
Giddy up!
