There is a sense of Deja vu in San Antonio, just like last year they enter the playoffs in a 3/6 match up as the underdog, once again early in the series they are competitive but ultimately over matched. Games 1 and 2 in Denver are in the books and the team entered the playoffs desperately hoping to steal a game before the Nuggets superstar John Wall returns. It didn't happen, so what now faces the team?
Heading home to San Antonio, game 3 is a must win, it will be the last game in the series that doesn't feature Wall, and a 0-3 hole is something that is not easy to recover from. "We have a couple of things to throw at Rootsey and the Nuggets, we are not in desperation mode just yet but its getting close" commented GM Leeroy earlier. It looks as if there will be changes implemented for Game 3, getting the team back to a look that was successful throughout the regular season.
The Spurs have had a few pleasant surprises so far i the series, Rookie Stanley Johnson has been great as the starting SG. Leading the team with 20ppg to go with 4rpg and 4apg. Bismack Biyombo has also been great, holding his own with 13.5 rebounds per game against one of the best rebounding combos out there. The issue for the Spurs is the next best rebounding numbers come from Will Barton at 6.5 per game. One of the other big men need to stand up.
With Game 3 approaching fast the team has been hard at work looking for an edge and sources say they may have found something that is looking promising, practice is always a different beast to the real thing however. This season hangs on a thread right now and we could be looking at a second consecutive 1st round exit which would be a disappointment considering how the season was looking 5 weeks ago before Anthony Davis was ruled out with injury.
