Week In Reveiw: Once

The vibe around New Orleans has changed in the past few weeks, since the last weekly reveiw. Pelicans fans have come out of their caves and are actually starting to attend games because New Orleans has finally figured it out and are actually starting to be competitive and put some wins on the board.
Since the losing streak of 10 games in weeks 7 and 8, New Orleans have looked like a new team, winning 7 of their past 10 games, with wins coming against playoff contenders in Denver and Sacramento in that span.

Early Monday morning, recently aquired Small Forward TJ Warren complained of moderate discomfort with his right foot, only for scans to reveal a fracture that requires surgery, that will side line him for the remainder of the season.
"It is extremely disappointing that Anthony will only play four games for our club this season but we didn't aquire him just for one season. TJ is set to play a major role in this franchise for many years to comes, so we need him to be recover back to full strength and to be set for a big 2016-17 season."

Kick starting week 11, the New Orleans Pelicans played host to the Portland Trailblazers in the last time they will meet this season. The Blazers are a defensive juggernaut despite what their record suggests, only allowing opponents 99.5 points per game, but their struggles have come on the offensive end where they only manage 91.5 points per game on average, which is the least in the league.
Last time they meet, it was the Pelicans that took the honours on the road by a convincing 30 points, so there is no doubt that the Blazers are desperate to redeem themselves and level up the series.
It was an evenly matched first quarter with each team exchanging buckets, with both teams scoring 25 points in the first. New Orleans made a dominate push in the second, out scoring the Blazers by 14 and taking control of this contest. Portland made a strong push in the third to get within four points but running out of petrol tickets had the Pelicans finishing strong and running out 7 point victors.
Thompson was great for the Blazers, hitting 7 of his 8 attempts for 16 points, while adding 7 rebounds and 2 steals to his box score. For the Pelicans, Markieff Morris inserted himself off the bench with 16 points and 10 boards, but it was Chandler Parsons thats continued his recent form with 22 points and 8 rebounds to claim the honours.
Final Score - NOP 97 defeated POR 90

In the second part of a back to back set, the Detroit Pistons were in town to see if they couldn't steal a win on the road against New Orleans. Its been another one of those years for the Pistons, with the injury of Bledsoe forcing them to trade Gasol and into another rebuild. I'm suggesting that if Bledsoe stayed healthy, it would have been a different season in Detroit.
Alvin Gentry insisted that the Pelicans get a good start and like the troops following orders, the New Orleans players got to work, winning the first quarter by a convicing six points. With the crowd being overly vocal, the Pelicans fed off their energy, continuing their dominant play and taking an eight point lead into the half. The second half was more of the same with same, with the Pelicans continuing to blow out the Pistons, with the lead pushing out to sixteen at one stage and it wasn't till the last quarter, when the sting was out of the game, that Detroit made a push but the defict was too large to overcome, with the Pelicans running out 12 point winners and giving New Orleans their 11 win of the season.
Detroit only had a couple of contributors, with their best performance coming from Joe Johnson. Johnson had 22 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists but it really was hopeless as New Orleans had it their own way. All 5 starters plus Morris scored in double figures but it was Parsons that was the best of the bunch. Chandler had 20 points, 6 boards and a handful of defensive stats to go with it.
Final Score - NOP 94 defeated DET 82

Revenge game? After two solid games to start the week, the Pelicans were on the road to face the team they just defeated in the Detroit Pistons, but infront of the Detroit faithful, it wasnt going to be easy.
Word around the league is that you must get on top of the Pistons early if you want any chance to win, so the Pelicans players took that infomation on board, jumping out to a slim four point lead to coming into the first imtermission. Taking the lead was important but to let the Pistons wrestle back the lead would diminish New Orleans effort, so the Pelicans pressure continued in the second, resulting in a nine point lead into the main break. The third quarter was all Detroit, going on a quick 10-4 run and put themselves right back in the contest, leveling the scores a number of times in the quarter and going into the final break only down by one possesion. The last was very much tit for tat, as Detroit would make a run only for New Orleans to hold them off and make a run of their own. The last quarter ended at 25 points a piece, handing NOP their third consecutive win this week.
Johnson was great again with 24 points but this time around he had some help from his mate Patrick Patterson with 25 points (5 threes), 8 rebounds and a handful of defensive stats. TJ Warren finally worked his way into the offense, scoring and efficient 18 points, to go with 9 rebounds, showing that in time he could be a juggernaut in this league but man of the match honours were given to Darren Collison, contributing 18 points, 7 assists and 2 steals, leading New Orleans to the victory.
Final Score - NOP 101 defeated DET 98

To cap off a quite successful week, New Orleans were back on the plane to play their final game at The Staples Centre against the Los Angeles Lakers.
After a slow start to the season, the Lakers are rolling now, winning 21 of their last 25 games and are looking more damaging then last year in their championship year. Behind their balanced offence and bone rattling defence, New Orleans has to bring everything if they want to walk away with the win in this one.
New Orleans burst out of the blocks to take a 12 point lead against the defending champs in the first four minutes, which had the Pelicans fan back home cheering loud enough that you could hear them in LA, but within a blink of an eye, the Lakers were back up to the pace and leveling out the quarter. The second quarter was all the Lakers, flexing their defensive muscle, holding the Pelicans to only seven points while scoring 27 points of their own and completely blowing this contest out of the water. Being a long way back, the Pelicans fought gallantry throughout the third, exchanging buckets with the best and showing in stints that they are capable of running with the champs, both teams scoring 29 points in the quarter. Despite matching it with the Lakers in the third, the Pelicans were still in a 19 point hole to start the fourth. With all the sting gone out of the game, it became more of a learning experience for the humble Pelicans as the Lakers continued their match and outscored New Orleans, to run out 30 point winners.
Los Angeles lock down style defence left alot of the NOP players shell shocked with the majority of them not showing up. Darren Collison was the only player who had a respectful game, shooting 70 percent from the field for 19 points, to go with 3 rebounds and 3 assists. LA on the hand had a number of guys who dominated the contest. Young Power Forward Mason Plumlee was a menace inside, scoring 13 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Man of the match was veteran Andre Iguodala. Iggy contributed 17 points, 8 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals, completely tearing the unsuspecting Pelicans limb from limb.
Final Score - LAL 110 defeated NOP 80
