Week 1 NLL Season 2014

After an excruciatingly long off / pre-season period the NLL Clippers this week embark on their 2015/16 campaign with almost an entirely new roster. Having completed a major single season over haul here we are on the cusp of week one ready to see the franken-clippers take on the NLL  

While expectations of the clips is rather low (and rightfully so) having come off a 27 win season. Those close to the franchise see an slightly improved season in 2015/16

While playoffs aren’t on the radar we certainly look for improvements across the board and some hard fought battles along the way.

GM Andrew is building a team geared around veterans and youth mixed in coupled with high levels of defence sprinkled with some scoring ability, we want opposing teams to come in and play hard to get the W.

Game 1 key matchup – Hornets @

Battle of the Rooks

With both teams fielding a large portion of the 2015 lottery class these team will have a long rivalry (at the wrong end of the ladder) one of these matchups includes the young up n coming point guards

Elf v Russell could be a matchup we highlight for a long time, the D of Payton vs the O of Russell. Who will win? Whoever wins this wins the game

Prediction – while both teams have a spate of youth itll be the vets in the clippers jerseys that bring home the bacon

Game 2 key matchup – Houston @

A healthy Rockets team with a firing Carmelo Anthony will be a tough team to over come let alone the re-tooling Los Angeles Clippers team

the one key matchup that could decide the fate of both teams will be Carmelo Anthony vs Clippers new recruit DeMarre Carroll. If Carroll can keep Anthony scoring to a minimum it will go a long way to deciding the game..

Prediction – with Melo at the helm its hard to go past a Houston victory here though LAC insiders are expecting a hard fought game

Game 3 key matchup –  @ Hawks

 VS

Burks v Wade two very athletic shooting guards that are almost identical in play style. One just starting his career and one approaching his twilight. While LAC are excited to see Burks play against the best this is one game that Wade should finish on top (this time)

Prediction – Hawks have a far superior squad with a lot more experience while this matchup will be fun for LAC to see how they fair against the best it’s a a loss we have already chalked up, Atlanta by plenty

Game 4 key matchup  @ Thunder

 Ricky Rubio and D’Angelo Russell set to tussle...

if there was one player in the NBA that I could compare Russell to at this point it would be Ricky Rubio, both smooth and under control point guards. While Russell has an edge offensively at the moment Rubio is the superior floor general and is partly the reason OKC take home the W

Prediction – OKC win I tight one however the class of Jimmy buckets with a big game will be too much for LAC to over come
