Two Days, Three Trades

10-05-15

PHILADELPHIA- The Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to three trades, setting them up to go big in this year’s free agency drive, according to team officials. Although GM VT refused to speak to the press about the transactions, a source close to the team did shed some light on what we will be seeing when the season kicks off.

Rookie Deals

According to the team source, both Kevon Looney and Rakeem Christmas have been moved for future considerations.

“They will not be going to the same team,” the source said. “They both will remain in the Eastern Conference but they are involved in two separate deals.”

Although the source would confirm what the Sixers would be getting in the deal, he did say it will likely be a combination of picks and points.

“The team is also effectively clearing up two roster spaces to go after free agents,” the source said.

The Sixers drafted Looney, a big man out of UCLA, with the 25th pick overall. Looney was slated to go higher in the draft, but back and hip issues red-flagged the forward. The Sixers medical team concurred with the diagnosis and Looney underwent surgery where he will remain out for up to six months.

It is rumored that the Sixers will be packaging the rights to rookie Andrew Harrison with Looney to get the deal done.

Christmas, drafted 33rd overall, is also a forward. He played for Syracuse, his impressive wingspan gaining him some attention.

“We were high on Christmas but have decided we need more veteran players at the four spot,” the source said. “So we cut a deal with another team that has more use for Rakeem.”

While the exact details will emerge soon, it is rumored the Sixers will be getting a pick and some points for Christmas.

The Big One

The anonymous source was even more tight-lipped about the final trade. All we know is the following: one of the Sixers’ starters has been traded, he will be going to an Eastern Conference team, Shelvin Mack is included in the deal and the Sixers will receive four assets in return.

“It was a tough decision, but the Sixers have decided to part ways with a starter before the coming season,” the source said.

But who will it be?

Joakim Noah is in the final year of a contract and likely on the decline as he turns 31 this year. LaMarcus Aldridge, also 30, will be receiving a huge payday and can never seem to stay healthy. Kawhi Leonard has been more or less invisible on court and will be making $10 million more this coming season. DeMar DeRozan is also in a contract year and it looks like he wants to be a paid a ton. Finally, Damian Lillard is a young star in the final year of a rookie contract and very valuable.

Who do you think the Sixers have agreed to move??
